I often take this hearty meal-in-one dish to potluck suppers at the community seniors' group my husband and I helped organize. It's delicious for sauerkraut lovers and easy to double for a larger crowd. —Reta Christensen, New Denmark, New Brunswick

I was intrigued by the short list of ingredients in this easy recipe. Unusual? Yes. Adaptable? Very much so. It was delicious! I made it as others with 28oz fresh chopped tomatoes from my garden, a fresh frying pepper from the garden, and kielbasa instead of ground beef since that's what I had on hand that wasn't frozen. It was delicious! A great basic recipe that you can substitute what you have on hand. I like that it was satisfying yet light. Can be made more healthy with ground turkey or chicken. Will definitely make again!

excellent and we used tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers from our garden - kids loveto helpwith that and it becomes more "our" recipe. We used italian seasoned ground turkey because we had some in the freezer.

I tried this tonight. I used my garden banana peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Think I used too many tomatoes as I had to cook longer due to the amount of liquid, but very good. Next time I will add some herbs. Added a cooked brotwurst along with the hamburger, may just use the sausage as I think it gives more flavor than the ground beef, this is a keeper.

marcoates, you are so right about people and their comments. This not only happens on this sight but also on several cooking sites I have been on. The funniest thing is that people write about how it sounds. I thought a review is something you give after trying the recipe. Don't waste your time trying to correct these people they only hear what they believe, like my husband would say "a slice of cheese short of a sandwich". So enjoy the recipe!

I haven't tried this recipe, and I don't think anyone should make a comment like "it sounds horrible" if they haven't tried it. What's not to like about all the ingredients in it?! If you don't like rice you can sub noodles, if you don't like green pepper you can sub whatever kind you like or leave it out. If one doesn't have something good and/or constructive to say, then one shouldn't comment at all.

This is a great dish; I use ground turkey andadd a bag of coleslaw mix. Left overs freezewell, since there are only two of us. Use a can of petite diced tomatoes to save time.
