This is delicious! I used 1/2C applesauce instead of the oil and I added some cloves and allspice to spice it up some more. Yum!! Thanks for sharing!

mmmmm divine. The way you cook the apples first makes a huge difference in the finished product - tender apples and a crispy crust, not a burnt crust.

I'm sure you've received answers to your question, but for my 2-cents worth, I've tried both the Red Delicious and the Granny Smith.  I chose the loose individual apples over the bargain bagged apples because I've found the individuals are more crunchy and not like styrofoam like the bagged bargin applies.  I really think the crunch is the factor, not so much the tartness of the apple.

So easy and made with ingredients that are usually on hand anyway. I had too many apples and wanted to do something with them, and glad I did! Next time I think I'd cut down on the brown sugar. This would also be great with some fresh cherries added in with the apples. Next time!

I made this recipe with whole wheat flour and it was yummy. Took it to work and I was very popular!

WATCH your baking time! I left mine in for 30 min. since a few of the apples weren't as tender...bottom crust burnt. I didn't realize a few minutes could make such a difference. The top was delicious;we just scraped it off the crust. I think maybe 350 would work better too.

This apple crisp recipe was spectacular!!!! Best I've ever made! I've been searching for an apple crisp recipe that the topping actually stays crunchy and my search is over! I made it exactly as the recipe says, but I bet this would be good with pears or peaches as well!

I want to make this recipe asap, and was wondering if anyone can give me a tip on what the best apples to use for this recipe.

Delicious! My family loved this. It's not too sweet, the apples are moist and just the right crunch to the topping. Will absolutely make this again.

Have made this twice. Great flavor without being too sweet. All the extra liquid scared me too but it was fully absorbed. Halved the recipe and was able to bake in a pie dish.

This is at the top of my list for best apple crisp-and I've made plenty. It has the best balance of flavor, crunch and texture I've found. We love fruit desserts so this is one I'll make over and over. Thank you TOH-you always come through!

This apple crisp is OUTSTANDING! I like that it makes a 9x13 pan size rather then a 9x9, perfect for family gatherings or potlucks. I too was concerned about the apple mixture juice causing it to be watered down but it turns out just perfect. I really like the idea of cooking the apples just until tender rather then putting it directly into the oven for baking, that’s one thing I didn’t like about apple crisp; I felt the apples weren’t tender enough – no longer a problem. Absolutely delicious, thanks for sharing the recipe!

Very good and quick to do. Will definitely keep this recipe handy.

Quick tip: I put the apple mixture in the microwave to help speed it along.

Everyone in my family REALLY enjoyed this apple crisp. We have a wide variety of tastes in our family so that is saying something rare! Very easy and very, very good. I am sure we will make it alot;and it will be good to take to pot lucks and other groups as well.

We are so glad to have this recipe.

Excellent flavor! Very unique in that you put some of the crumble mixture on the bottom as well as top. I thought the apple mixture juice would water down the insides, but it turned was just the right moistness. I also added 1 c. coconut and 1 c. pecans. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

Made this last night for my family....it got a thumbs up! I did add chopped pecans to the top of the crisp and it came out great.

This recipe was a hit with my family. I used half Splenda and half white sugar to cut down the sugar a little bit and it came out great!

I love this recipe for apple crisp. I also tried it with substituting 2 quarts of frozen cherries instead of apples and cooked them with 1/2 t. cinnamon & 1/4 t. nutmeg and 2 T. tapioca. Delicious!

I didn't have any shortening so I used all butter, and it was very good!!
