I made these sandwiches one evening for my family, and they were a huge hit with everyone, including the picky eaters. There’s plenty of sauce and cheese to complement the baked meatballs.

My 7 year old loves this recipe, but we leave off the American cheese.

You can use ground turkey in place of the beef. Using a broililng pan will reduce fat content. Very tasty.

This recipe makes a large batch of meatballs which I take and freeze for extra meals. I do not add the processed American cheese slices and mayonnaise to the sandwiches. My family and I do not care for the taste. If I do not have saltines on hand, I use whole wheat bread crumbs. I also use whole wheat or whole grain sub rolls. An extremely good sandwich which I have made many, many times

Well, one easy solution is to eliminage the mayo - my goodness, it is completely unnecessary!

Has anyone tried to modify it to be more healthy. The nutrition numbers are very high, especially fat.
