The inspiration for this cake came from one of my favorite flowers, the sunflower. The yellow peeps make eye-catching flower petals, and I carefully placed chocolate chips in a circular pattern to resemble the seeds in the middle of a sunflower. This cake is easy, but looks quite impressive. —Bethany Eledge, Cleveland, Tennessee

What a fun recipe. I made this for Easter and everyone, kids and adults alike, thought it was great. It was quick, easy and festive. What more could you want.

oops- make that BIG hit
It has become an annual tradition to make this cake in my family. Several co-workers have taken the idea home as well. This year I made the traditional way and then with orange peeps and orange creamsicle frosting on a white cake with white chips in the center. A bit hit.

This was so easy to make! I used my own chocolate buttercream frosting, though; can't stand canned stuff. I used 8" cake pans so the cake stood a little taller, but wow - how very cute!! Super easy! I had to run my hands under cold water a few times while putting on the chocolate chip "seeds" - the heat of my hand holding the chips made them melt and I couldn't pick them up - LOL! Can't wait to take it to church and watch the kids devour it!

I made this cake for a get together with families and everyone, kids and adults, loved it. To answer the question about freezing Peeps, yes you can freeze them and since they are available now in the stores, it would be a good time to stock up. I think this cake would be a good addition all summer long so be sure to buy plenty of Peeps!

I've made this cake several times using different flavored cakes. It's fun, and very appealing to the eye. Always a hit.

I made this as a homemade chocolate cake with a cream cheese & chocolate filling with chocolate icing and it was fabulous. Gave it to my son's girlfriend for her Spring birthday and she loved it and the Peeps decorations. Placing the chocolate chip "seeds" one-by-one is a bit trying but the outcome is so amazing that it's really worth it!

The special thing about this cake is how it is decorated. I used a plain white cake mix. Frosted it with homemade chocolate buttercream frosting and did the Peep petals with chocolate chips in the center. But what really set it off was to place some fresh white flowers on the plate around the base of the cake. BEAUTIFUL!

This is an easy fun cake to make. We separated the peeps and added a dab of frosting to the bottom to help stick to the top of the cake. I also added strawberry jam to the middle of the layers instead of more frosting.

I have made this several times since the recipe was published in the feb/mar 2008 issue. This year I made a gluten free white cake and iced it with vanilla icing, used pink peeps and some edible pink glitter from a bakery supply store for the center. I cut a sliver off the end peeps to help them stick together. It's a hit every time!!

My cake with the Peeps looked a little more triangle than round.... I need to practice a little more, however, a very fun recipe for Easter....

This recipe was definitely a hit with young and old! Easy, fun and certainly the talk of the dessert table! My only suggestion is that I cut apart the peeps so they would stay in place. Made it with white cake, milk chocolate frosting, and miniature hershey kisses in the middle for the "seeds". Yummy!!

This cake was the centerpiece of a buffet for yesterdays customer appreciation sale that I hold annually. (Made from my own cake recipe and frosting recipe. from this site). I had 27 requests for the printed recipe, took 4 orders for catering, and at the end of the party/sale, sold the one that I had made. Everyone said that it was too pretty to cut-a theory that usually drives me nuts. The extra $$ soothed my irritation just fine! Kudo's to the Doughboy for an easy and quick pleaser, picture-worthy and with unlimited variations. I'm stocking and freezing the marshmallow treats for summer catering. 2 thumbs up.

Sooo Cute! I had a fun time with this recipe. Was easy to put together. I chose to use a butter recipe yellow cake with a milk chocolate frosting and milk chocolate chips. Taking it to share with my family on Easter Sunday. Sure to be a hit. I also suggest purchasing more peeps after the Easter holiday to put into the freezer for later use. Looks great!

Everyone loved it. Great for Easter. So easy . I ended up having to come up with another idea for a white cake. used a blue peep on that one with roasted coconut for a nest in middle of cake and little robin egg whoppers for little eggs in nest and all around outside edge. Thanks for the idea to use peeps.

I wanted to make this in the summer because it seemed to fit more. Since PEEPS are a seasonal thing I was unable to use them. I just dyed whit frosting and did the best I could to make "petals".
