Meet the Cook: Since he's a livestock truck driver, my husband often starts work around 2 or 3 a.m. A piece of this crisp will keep him going till breakfast. And our two boys - ages 10 and 7 - love to have it for dessert and in their school lunches. -Joanne Korevaar, Burgessville, Ontario

This recipe is comfort food at it's best!!! I didn't have all the pears called for so I substituted 3 medium Granny Smith apples for some of the pears. I made the crisp topping the day before and kept it in the refrigerator to save some time & used apple pie spice instead of the individual spices called for in the recipe. I couldn't be more happy with the results :)

This recipe is definitely a keeper for me! I did turn my oven to broil for a few minutes at the end to get the topping just a tad bit crisper in the middle. This was delicious!

After canning pears all weekend, this was a delicious reward with some vanilla ice cream. Just the right amount of sweetness, and very easy to make. It's a winner
