This juice is a favorite at our place. I'll often double the batch and send a jar next door to my mother-in-law! I was looking for a way to sweeten lemonade without using more sugar when I came up with the recipe. —Wendy Masters, Grand Valley, Ontario

Orange Lemonade Recipe
  • Prep: 20 min. + cooling
  • Yield: 12 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1-3/4 cups sugar
  • 2-1/2 cups water
  • 1-1/2 cups lemon juice (about 8 lemons)
  • 1-1/2 cups orange juice (about 5 oranges)
  • 2 tablespoons grated lemon peel
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange peel
  • Water

Directions

  • In a large saucepan, combine sugar and water. Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally. Cool.
  • Add juices and peel to cooled sugar syrup. Cover and let stand at room temperature 1 hour. Strain syrup; cover and refrigerate.
  • To serve, fill glasses or pitcher with equal amounts of fruit syrup and water. Add ice and serve. Yield: 12 servings.

Nutritional Facts 1 serving (1 cup) equals 136 calories, trace fat (trace saturated fat), 0 cholesterol, 1 mg sodium, 35 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, trace protein.

I cooked the grated peels with the sugar and water.

Served it with vodka and come club soda.

It was a REAL hit.

Made a batch this weekend and it was very good. Tangy and sweet. I pulled out my mother's old juice-o-matic and had a great time squeezing out all the yummy juice from the lemons and oranges. Will make another batch to keep in the fridge to make a glass at time.

I did not do the cooking thing. I just put the ingredients in a pitcher and stirred until the sgar was dissolved. Did not put the lemon and orange peel in it either. VERY GOOD my way.

too much sugar...found a perfect lemonade that uses no sugar...juice 3 granny smith apples and 1/4 of a lemon.. peel and all into the juicer. Absolutley perfect and no sugar needed.

While this recipe makes an excellent drink for those without Diabetes it should not be consumed by those who are diabetic or even pre-diabetic. For those whodiabetic make this one as I do for my wife who is diabetic. Get the packets or pouches made by Crystal Light and make the drink per packet instructions. Ad a NO Sugar Added Orange Juice without pulp and then just sweeten to taste with any of the diabetic friendly sweetners. We prefer Spenda, Truvia or Stevia. You can also purchase both the Lemonade mix and an orange mix by Crystal Light that have no sugar content and mix them together and then add just water and get a delicious drink. No need to add any sweetner to this combination. Makes for variety.

KarenMessenger -- the recipe is for a syrup. You mix the syrup with water to make the lemonade as it says at the end of the direction, you mix equal parts syrup (from the recipe) and water to make the lemonade. It sounds delightful, I may have to try it! :D

Can I use Splenda or Stevia in place of the sugar? I'm prediabetic and need to watch my carbs.
