Could you use fondant instead..would it melt?

These cupcakes came out awesome and were the hit of the party! We made them with red velvet cake. Got tons of compliments. The airheads candy were available at the local convenience store and were fairly easy to mold. We made the cupcakes and toppings the same day and the bottles had started to melt before we left the house for the party, so that was disappointing. And the "1 hour prep time" on this recipe is ridiculously misleading. It took almost 8 hours to make the bottles, labels, paint the tops of the bottles, and to make the glasses and streamers for 30 cupcakes. While these cupcakes looked fantastic and came out great, I doubt I would ever invest the time to make them again. And also I would have to figure out a way to preserve the airheads to keep them from melting if I were ever going to put that kind of effort out again.

The cupcakes were cute, but our airheads bottles and steamers melted overnight. So if you make them, serve that day.

A very cute idea, but way too much work for my hectic schedule. I don't even know what air head candies are or where to buy them in my rural area. This is one of those fun to look at , but who will actually make them type of ideas.
