Tip

Keep Clams Tender

Homemade clam chowder is a real treat! The trick to wonderfully tender clams is to add them at the end of cooking. If they cook too long, they become tough. —Evelyn Joy, Alameda, California

I made it as written, but next time I'll only use half the milk. I thought the thyme gave it a good flavor.

I did not like the thyme in this recipe, the worst clam chowder I have ever had.

Delicious, especially now since the weather is getting colder! My husband and I loved it, and he keeps telling me he isn't a soup person .... but he keeps asking for more! We both added a little more pepper! I didn't have celery salt, but had celery flakes and added a tad more salt. Excellent!

This was excellent. The only change I would make was to add a little bacon. Rich creamy loved it!

OMG! This was my first attempt at Clam Chowder. This is so easy. I could not find celery salt so I used real celery and sauteed it with the onions. This soup was delicious, just the right thickness. I also increased the clams to 3 cans and used 5 potatoes. Delicious!
