This recipe came out of my mother's cookbook. The smudges and splatters show that Mom used it extensively to feed our large family. The tarragon really comes through to make a flavorful main dish. Now I prepare it for our four children and six grandchildren. —Helen McGeorge, Abbotsford, British Columbia

My husband surprised me and got seconds, but I was not that impressed. For one thing the directions were confusing. It says to toss the vegetables with the flour then "add to skillet with the broth, Worchestershire sauce, tarragon and pepper." It wasn't clear where the ground beef should be at this time. It should've said "add to ground beef with the broth..." That may have been why it didn't taste that great to me. I didn't simmer the ground beef with the vegetables. It just wasn't worth the time to make. I'll stick to plain old shpherd's pie.

If I"m being honest, I was not impressed with this recipe. I used a little extra ground meat, and even with that, the whole onion took over the flavor of the meal. I am sharing the leftovers with my dogs. Won't make again.

I have a recipe similar to this one that I make a lot and we love it. I have not tried this yet I have a question do the carrots get done. I like them soft how long do you simmer them. My recipe calls for frozen I have never used fresh.

That`s very tasty! I did some changes. I didn`t use mushrooms and I use the juice from simmering to make mashed potatoes ( there was a lot of juice in it). I added whole garlic cloves when I cooked mashed potatoes, you can easly remove them when you will finish to boil your potatoes. Garlic will give you extra flavor.

Made this many times. The bacon gives it that extra flava pop!
