Ingredients

  • 1 package (16 ounces) hot roll mix
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water (120° to 130°)
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon maple flavoring
  • FILLING:
  • 1-1/2 cups finely chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons maple flavoring
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the contents of the roll mix and yeast
  • packets with the sugar. Stir in the water, butter, egg and maple
  • flavoring; mix well.
  • Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5
  • minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top.
  • Cover with plastic wrap; let rise in a warm place until doubled,
  • about 1 hour.
  • Combine the first five filling ingredients in a small bowl; set
  • aside. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide

  • into thirds.
  • Roll one portion of dough into a 12-in. circle; transfer to a greased
  • 12-in. pizza pan. Brush with a third of the butter; sprinkle with a
  • third of the filling. Repeat two times with the remaining dough,
  • butter and filling, placing each circle of dough over the previous
  • layer. Pinch outer edges to seal.
  • Place a small glass at the center of the dough. With scissors, cut
  • from the outside edge to the glass to form 16 wedges. Remove glass;
  • twist each wedge three times. Cover with plastic wrap; let rise in a
  • warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  • Uncover dough. Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until golden
  • brown. Remove from pan to a wire rack. Yield: 16 servings.
