Maple Nut Twist Recipe
  • Prep: 55 min. + rising Bake: 20 min.
  • Yield: 16 Servings
55 20 75

Ingredients

  • 1 package (16 ounces) hot roll mix
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water (120° to 130°)
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon maple flavoring
  • FILLING:
  • 1-1/2 cups finely chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons maple flavoring
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the contents of the roll mix and yeast packets with the sugar. Stir in the water, butter, egg and maple flavoring; mix well.
  • Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover with plastic wrap; let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Combine the first five filling ingredients in a small bowl; set aside. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide into thirds.
  • Roll one portion of dough into a 12-in. circle; transfer to a greased 12-in. pizza pan. Brush with a third of the butter; sprinkle with a third of the filling. Repeat two times with the remaining dough, butter and filling, placing each circle of dough over the previous layer. Pinch outer edges to seal.
  • Place a small glass at the center of the dough. With scissors, cut from the outside edge to the glass to form 16 wedges. Remove glass; twist each wedge three times. Cover with plastic wrap; let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  • Uncover dough. Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan to a wire rack. Yield: 16 servings.

So far I have made it twice and will make it again tomorrow (Christmas Eve) to take to may daughter's for Christmas morning. We think it is delicious. A little messy to make but pretty when it comes out of the oven. I don't keep yeast on hand so it is handy having it in the hot roll mix.

The yeast is part of the Hot Roll mix.  Find it in the baking section of your favorite grocer.

I can't make it the first time. The recipe does not say how much yeast to use! Big miss.
