Ingredients

  • 1 to 1-1/2 cups ice cubes
  • 2 ounces whiskey
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 to 3 dashes bitters, optional
  • GARNISH:
  • Maraschino cherry

Directions

  • Fill a mixing glass or tumbler three-fourths full with ice. Place remaining ice in a rocks glass; set aside.
  • Add the whiskey, vermouth and bitters if desired to mixing glass; stir until condensation forms on outside of glass. Strain into prepared glass. Garnish as desired. Yield: 1 serving.

    Editor's Note: You may substitute bourbon for the whiskey if desired. You may also strain the Manhattan into a chilled cocktail glass and serve without additional ice.
