The picture doesn't do justice to the potato salad. The colors match the salad and make it look unattractive; contrast color is needed to show the salad at its best. Wanda, I also would love to have your Surprise Pudding recipe. I'm new here so don't know how TOH handles requests like this. And you're right, moderation is the key.
The picture does not do justice to the potato salad. All the colors are pale and there is no color contrast with the salad to highlight it. I'd make the salad and enjoy it but again, Wanda is right, moderation is the key. It's not something to eat daily.

This recipe is DEFINITELY NOT HEALTHY by my standards...ie:bacon, whipping cream. Yikes!!

VERY WELL SAID Red Hat Milli! You must have been typing the same time as I was - otherwise I'd have included you in my comment about agreeing with the Wanda and Lucie. For the writers of the negative comments here's the words of one of my kitchen plaques: "Dear Lord, help my words to be tender and loving today - For tomorrow I may have to eat them!"
My views about negative comments already expressed by LucieLaRenta and wanda sage!!! I'd make it again and use the regular Miracle Whip as I just did. I agree the photo could be more appealing and it does look better with chopped green onions, thin slices of radish and a few cherry tomatoes in a few groups around the edge of the serving dish. If you don't like that combo you could add some small groupings of diced yellow, red and green peppers around the edge. Doing it that way, someone who doesn't care too much for peppers can scoop from the centre. Be creative - use your imagination! Hey, wanda sage how do we get copies of your "Surprise Pudding? I want to knock some socks off too!

To those who have or are thinking about writing a negative comment about this or any recipe not tried yet, this is for you. Assuming you can cook then you must know recipes are not written in stone. An experienced cook knows they are a guideline to make as is or modify based on your personal cooking level or dietary needs/likes. It is not a one size fits all. In consideration for others (if you can get past yourself) keep your personal opinions to yourself. Your negative attitude I'm guessing is not just limited to recipe reviewing and will come back to bite you faster than a piece of bacon or whipping cream. Recipe reviewing is not Dear Abby. We don't want to hear your life woes camouflaged by recipe reviewing. We want to cook and appreciate others sharing their finds with us. You use some and some you don't. If you don't use one then you have nothing to offer us other cooks about it.

I agree with others - If it's not to your taste or liking - don't try it, BUT don't write negative things just because you would not try it. Some of you need to look at your profiles/recipe offerings, etc. Negative attitudes only hurt your outlook on life. Positive attitudes are a "healthier option". Try "that recipe".

I have a recipe for Surprise Pudding that would knock your socks off, it's made with lots of heavy cream, brown sugar, and an egg batter. The crowning glory is sweetened heavy whipped cream. It would make Paula Deen proud. It's been made by my family for over 100 years, and it is made about twice a year. Moderation is the key.
I am sorry, I meant use the regular Miracle Whip. I am sick of carrot sticks, pita chips and hummus. Now that is not a taste treat.

No one ever said to eat this every day, this is a wonderful potato salad recipe, I make it for special occasions, and get raves from family and friends, and they ask for the recipe, frankly, I am sick of eating the myriads of foods that have the so called, "you'll never miss the" blah, blah, blah. Furthermore, live a little, and use the regular mayo, the way the economy is going, eat what ever you can, when you can, because with the economy the way it is you will be lucky to eat a boiled potato, PLAIN.

Please people review it if you've made it, otherwise put a sock in it.

I'm a little sad to see so many negative comments towards one of our Taste of Home cooks. Whether you try it or not, like it or not, the comments could have been said in a kinder more "tasteful" way. Wow!

How is this healthier? with sugar, whipping cream, mayonnaise, bacon and egg? My own "unhealthy" recipe is healthier than this one.

I am a Mayo person and do not like Miracle Whip at all. eeww.

Doesn't even compare to my regular salad. Too much fat, bland and boring.

I might further 'makeover' the recipe using turkey bacon, sweetener rather than sugar, and egg substitute both in the dressing as well as chopped hard cooked eggs. The heavy whipping cream could be substituted somewhat with lite sour cream. You could then use Lite Miracle Whip for better flavor and texture. Then add some minced red, orange, yellow or green pepper and garnish with a grape tomato or something for color. Like others I find this recipe in no way "healthy".

Sugar, miracle whip, flour, celery, water, celery seed. This not only looked anemic, it tasted horrible. To begin with I can't stand anything with Miracle whip; such a bastardization of mayonnaise. We took a few bites and thru it away

I am just wondering how that is suppose to be healthy. Using non fat Miracle Whip doesn't make it healthy! The bacon and heavy cream make up for what the non fat leaves out!

Healthy? Potatoes, bacon, sugar, whipping cream - No way!!

I haven't made it. But in order for me to make something, I have to look at the pic and the ingredients to see if I think it would be good. I'm sorry, but this one won't get made at my house. It just doesn't look like it's worth it.

Sugar and flour? This isn't a cake! How is this "madeover" there's additional fat calories in this that's not even in regular potato salad. Worse "light" recipe TOH has ever emailed me!

This is rather colorless, so I would add green onions or chives instead of white, and then put in some colored and green peppers. We like paprika shaken on top for added color as well as flavor. I would not use the whipped cream if putting in reduced fat mayo, either.

this is not a potato salad my family would eat - either make German potato salad or make a more traditional potato salad - also it looks bland and colorless

This is the most unappealing potato salad I've seen. Maybe it's the picture, but looking at it, I won't waste my time making it.

wow ! Tough to review if you haven't tried it. Sort of like panning a movie without seeing it ! ! Hmmm, i consider my Grandma's German potato salad comfort food and it HAS vinegar in it !

How can you call this healthy with bacon, whipping cream, mayo, and 3 eggs? Think I will stick to grandma's recipe. However always enjoy new ideas, just not this one.

Sugar, whipped cream ???? I want potato salad, not dessert.

I'm always looking for new potato salad recipes to try but I won't try this one. Food is first 'eaten' with your eyes and this looks totally unappealing. There's absolutely no color variation in this dish and it looks bland. If it doesn't appeal to my eye then I assume it won't be pleasing to my palate either. It needs some color and eye appeal to make it 'look' good and like something you'd like to try.

Much Heathier!!?? Healthier than What?? 1/2 cup Heavy cream and 3 whole eggs and 6 strips of BACON and 2 cups of miracle whip on only 6 large potatoes!!!!! LOL come on I hope this is a typo that sounds GROSS.

To each his own but I don't like the taste of vinegar or salad dressing in potato salad. I would rather use plain yogurt and reduced fat mayonaise instead. Potato salad is supposed to be a comfort food and if it has a vinegar taste to it then it does not meet the standard for comfort food.

Well, this is something I've never done... put up a 'review' without having made the recipe. This recipe, however delicious it may be, should not be listed under 'healthy', just because it has fat-free Miracle Whip.... it does have bacon & heavy whipping cream, which negates the fat free, doesn't it? If the cream is skipped it can be healthier at least.
