“My mom used to make a recipe like this when I was younger. I decided to make some healthy changes, and this version is as good, if not better than the original. Being a dietitian, I love to come up with ways to lighten up recipes. I would bake all the time if I could!” Jackie Termont - Elkhart, Indiana

This was a great recipe. Everyone liked it; you could still taste a little of the plum puree in it, but it was very chocolatey.

Absolutely loved. Very tasty. Can't wait to make again.
Absolutely loved, so good and tasty. Even my son loved it. Can't wait to make it again.

Prune taste was disgusting, might be worth trying applesauce, but not worth the work since first try was horrible

Made this for the first time and will definitely be making it many more times. My entire family loved it-including my pickiest eater!

While the consistency of this cake was really good, it didn't taste a thing like hot fudge. The prune flavor overwhelmed the whole cake. I don't know how this passed TOH's test kitchen, but please don't waste your time or ingredients on it.

My family really did not care for this. They kept asking what the weird taste was, I'm assuming it was the prunes. I wonder if it would taste any different using applesauce? I will not be making it again to find out. Too bad, we really wanted to love it...

Very yummy! I used applesauce for the prunes as I had it in my pantry. Wonderful chocolate dessert!

Delicious, as good as my 'old' recipe for this dessert but better for you. We love the leftovers just slightly warmed in the microwave.

Very, very good!! I used to make the original (full-fat) version of this recipe. I love the fact that we can enjoy it in a healthier version--and it's a great portion size. Not a bite-size dessert. My whole family LOVES this recipe. We top it with Light Whipped Cream. Highly recommend for that chocolate craving when you are trying to eat healthier.

My husband and daughter LOVED it! It was so easy and the prunes were a great hidden plus.

I made individual cakes in custard cups, baking them in a an inch of water in two baking pans. They came out moist and wonderfully rich. Definitly a keeper!

This was very much like my Mom's old recipe, which I no longer have. Glad to come across this one! Hubby wanted more!

I have used my recipe for 40 years. I tried this version and my husband said it was as good as my original recipe. Definately using this recipe from now on!!!

This is one of the best chocolate desserts we have ever tasted! It was easy to make and made my husband smile for a long time.

Not very rich tasting. Like it was missing something. Cake was spongy and sticky.

Very good. It probably would be better with ice cream on top. I did not taste the prunes.

I might try applesauce next time, but liked the recipe as written. No fruity taste, no prune taste, just a great chocolately taste that wasn't too sweet.

I made it last night, using apple sauce, splenda/brown sugar, and gluten-free flour. The taste was too sweet for me, and it was very grainy, though I liked the "chocolateness".

My family raved about this one. It is a keeper for recipes!!!

Tasted good for being low-fat. I needed a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, though. ;o) The prunes have a bit of a distinct taste. I would try it with applesauce next time.

Excellent. Similar to others have made. I use applesauce instead of the prunes. Let my kids make it as it was so easy. Of course serving with ice cream adds calories.

I was looking forward to a nice soft creamy cake with a chocolate topping but instead the cake was very hard and the topping was dried.

This is one of the best cakes that we've had. The pudding texture on the bottom is yummy. Used applesauce instead of prunes.

I used the prunes and it sure did taste fruity. I thought maybe with applesauce or regular oil maybe better, but the texture was strange. With all the cocoa in it, it oddly enough didn't taste like chocolate. We threw it out.

I have several Pudding Cake recipes... One from a daughter who just mixes the cake right in the pan. Puts on the topping and pours the water over it.... Easy and no mess to clean up! It works with this one, also...

We made this last evening and it is sooo yummy! What we liked is that it is made with ingredients you always have on hand so we can make it anytime company drops in or we need to satify a sweet tooth.

This was very good. Of course it is not as rich-tasting or chocolaty as regular chocolate cake because it is low in fat (the flavor is similar to hot chocolate), but it was still very tasty and incredibly easy and quick to make! You can't taste the prunes. I think next time I'll add some cinnamon to the topping.

I made this for Super bowl sunday and it was fantastic! Use applesauce for prune with perfect results. Not overly sweet, very moist and the pudding layer on the bottom was excellent! Served with vanilla cool whip. Keeping this one on file! Thanks.

Mine definitely did not come out like the picture. I followed the recipe to a T. The top was runny and the cake was very rubbery, my family would not finish their serving.

We loved this recipe and couldn't believe it was low fat. The hot fudge made this cake wonderful! It's definately one I will be making again.

The taste just wasn't good on this dessert! It was definitely lacking true chocolate taste for my family! I ended up dumping it in the garbage disposal!

This was very good-- very chocolatey! I used unsweetened applesauce instead of the prunes. Worked just as good. I use unsweetened applesauce in most recipes instead of oil. I figured that's what the prunes replaced. Cup for cup it works great.
