Homemade Chocolate Pudding Recipe

Homemade Chocolate Pudding Recipe Homemade Chocolate Pudding Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 4

This delightful pudding is always a treat and easy to whip up using common pantry ingredients. I usually top the pudding with M&M's. My husband likes whipped topping on his and our daughter loves to dip fresh strawberries in hers.—Carrina Cooper, McAlpin, Florida

I thought that this was a good chocolate pudding recipe. I quartered the amounts and it made a good amount for one person. I didn't include the butter, vanilla or salt, as I thought they were superfluous. ome people have been having trouble with setting the pudding - you don't need to premix the dry ingredients with the milk before putting them in the saucepan, just keep stirring while the milk is heatiing up and they will eventually dissolve. After the mixture starts to bubble, keep cooking for a minute or two more, stirring constantly so it doesn't stick on the bottom. You might have to turn down the heat slightly if it starts to get away from you. After chilling, the pudding I mafe wasn't as thick as the sort that you get in a pudding cup or the box sort, so if you need it thicker (eg youre putting it in a pie or you just want it thicker), just increase the amount of cirnflour by a tablespoon or two. I thought the flavouur/level of sweetness was nice and chocolatey, and quite sweet but not overly so.

I wish I would have read the reviews before I made this. Since the average rating was high, I assumed it would be good. It was horrible. It never set and didn't taste very good at all. I just wasted 4 cups of good milk. Next time I'll read the reviews before I choose a recipe to try.

Instructions are not complete! In order for the pudding to actually thicken one needs to cook it much longer and do some tweaking. First you should mix the cornstarch with half cup of water, making a paste. Then add it in. Also, adding 2 egg yolks is a great fix. Boil.. turn down the heat to medium and stir until thick (pudding coats back of spoon). It will reduce down a bit so you might want to double the recipe. Let it cool for a bit then put it in the fridge overnight...comes out perfect! Or, if in a hurry you can put some in bowls and stick them in the freezer for 10-30min (depending on what temp you like your pudding).. and enjoy! (Also, I cut down the sugar by half and it was still a little too sweet for our taste.)

Sorry to be a Debbie downer but this recipe never set, was extremely bitter and I would not serve this to anyone. I followed your instructions exactly.

It looks very delicious.

The flavor was good, but my pudding never set. It was liquid like chocolate milk, even after I refrigerated it overnight.

Oh my wow. This pudding recipe is flippin awesome!! but i did tweak it just a bit. I only used 1/2 c sugar, used flour instead of cornstarch (didnt have any lol) and added 1 tbsp of honey, and about 12 hershey kisses with carmel centers. and my family just loves it! yall r wonderful!

So easy to make. I like dark intense chocolate, so I added extra cocoa and vanilla and it was perfect!

I LOVE pudding! It is so yummy and this recipe is perfect. My siblings love it when I make this pudding. I used half white sugar half coconut sugar the second time I made it and it was just as sweet.

P.S. Left out the M&M's though...I like my pudding creamy not chunky!

Reviewed on Sep. 15, 2012 by dlb62

I (accidently) added about 1 tablespoon more of the cocoa...great accident though! Loved the pudding!

I would not put so much salt next time. Maybe just a pinch. And I cut the sugar to 2/3 cup.

This is SO much better than the box you buy at the store as well as the microwave recipe that I tried from YOUR competitor!

This is easy and so delicious. Will be added to my favorite recipes!

Sorry to be so critical with the star rating, but this simply just didn't "cut the mustard" for our family. On an up note, it was simple to prepare....

It turned out so smooth, and had a rich chocolate flavor. A box mix is quicker, but this is definitely better.

My family thought that chocolate was a little too strong. Next time I think I'll cut that back a little bit, but it was good.

Delicious! Just made a batch right now because I was craving something sweet, but didn't have anything around. Super easy to make (no more trouble than a box, really). Added a splash of milk and ate a cup warm. Thanks for sharing the recipe! Wish I had M&M's I'm sure that's yummy, too!

This pudding is so wonderful. I used it to spread over a crepe and topped that with strawberry sauce and whipped cream. Yum!

Used as a pie filling for Valentines day. Oh my goodness was it ever tasty!!

My husband and I love this pudding. I added sweet flaked coconut (about a cup) but left off the M & M's. There is probably no limit to the variations you could use. Can't wait to serve it to our grandchildren, since they are big chocolate lovers.

This is the same recipe my mother always made. She called it Corn Starch Pudding. Better than ANY of the store bought puddings

I must have made this 4 times a week when I was pregnant last winter - very good my 14 year old daughter even likes to make it. Very good! We never had leftovers!

This is a great recipe! Especially if you don't want all the preservatives that a boxed pudding would give you. I have made this recipe 3 times and will continue to use it! Thanks!!!
