Birch Bark Candles Centerpiece

You don't have to chop down a tree to create this woody winter wonderland!

  1. We found 8-inch-high birch bark cylinders online and cut them in half crosswise to make two 4-inch-high cylinders.
  2. Insert an 8-in. Styrofoam circle inside each cylinder. (You could also glue a sheet of birch bark around the Styrofoam circles. If you can't find birch bark cylinders or sheets, use birch bark-patterned scrapbook paper.)
  3. Place a 9-in. tall pillar candle in the center of each Styrofoam circle. Add green reindeer moss, pinecones and bunches of small artificial green berries around each candle.
  4. If desired, lay a sheet of birch bark or birch bark scrapbook paper on the table. Set the candle-filled birch bark cylinders on top.
  5. Place a third pillar candle on the sheet; add berries and pinecones around the base of the candle.
  6. Birch bark sheets or scrapbook paper can also be used as place mats.

  1. Cut a 3/4-in.-thick slice from a 1-1/2-in.-diameter birch branch. Drill a hole in the center with a 1/8-in. bit.
  2. Insert a juniper spring into the drilled hole.
  3. With a 1-1/4-in.-high star paper punch, punch a star shape from a thin layer of birch bark or bark-patterned scrapbook paper. Use a black fine-line marker to write a guest's name on the star. Glue the star to top of the juniper sprig.
