Peeling ChestnutsWhen chestnuts are available, I buy some and store them in the freezer. To heat, I put slightly defrosted chestnuts in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate and slit an X on the flat side of each with a sharp knife. Then I microwave on high until the nuts are soft. After they cool a bit, I peel them and enjoy that holiday flavor even though I don’t have a fireplace! —Jan S., San Marcos, California
