Heavenly Filled Strawberries Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 dozen large fresh strawberries
  • 2 packages (one 8 ounces, one 3 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Grated chocolate

Directions

  • Remove stems from strawberries; cut a deep "X" in the tip of each berry. Gently spread berries open.
  • In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, confectioners' sugar and extract until light and fluffy. Pipe or spoon about 2 teaspoons into each berry; sprinkle with chocolate. Chill until serving. Yield: 3 dozen.

Nutritional Facts 1 filled strawberry (calculated without chocolate) equals 41 calories, 3 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 10 mg cholesterol, 26 mg sodium, 3 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, 1 g protein. Diabetic Exchange: 1/2 fat.

This was great, however, I had to make it work with ingredients on hand. I had regular sugar and pulsed in blender to get 1/2 cup. I used 1 tsp of vanilla instead- that was on hand. I then added 2 tbls of Contreau liquor to the mix and filled the strawberries---yummy! Thanks for this recipe

I've made this recipe many times for church & family functions, an awesome recipe. I suggest piping filling into berries. works so much faster and less mess. have had the recipe for a couple of years and plan to keep it. try & enjoy

Loved the filled strawberries. Thanks so much. 3 oz of cream cheese is about 85.04 grams and 8 oz of cream cheese is 227 grams. 1/2 c granulated sugar is 115 grams.

Please could someone tell me what is meant by "two packages, one 8 ounces, one 3 ounces" - how many grams is that?

Also 1/2 cup refers to how many grams?

I tried cutting and filling the berries and found it a little difficult so I just cut them in half a put filling on top. They were gobbled up with rave reviews.

These were not fun to make, the strawberries kept breaking. The taste was good and the presentation was just ok (because of the broken berries).They didn't hold up well either so if I were to make them again I would definately not make too many so that there where none left over.

These were the first to go at a cocktail party that I hosted. When I do them again, I'm going to split the strawberry in half and pipe a star to filling on it instead of splitting the strawberry. Also I will top with a curly shaving of chocolate instead of grating because you can barely taste the chocolate on it.

I make a similar recipe, but I use 1 container of marshmallow cream and the cream cheese with vanilla. It is heavenly!

My only suggestion is not to make this too far in advance. The strawberries tend to get mushy overnight. Make only a few hours before serving

I followed this recipe verbatim. The filling was delicious -- loved the almond extract. However, I must be a real dummy/klutz in the kitchen. I had a very hard time "stuffing" the berries. My husband and I were both laughing because they kept splitting apart and I would put those on a different plate -- as duds. Instead of having about 25 pretty filled strawberries, I only had about 18 filled! We ended up dipping the split berries for our dessert. I'm going to take these to a little get together, but I'm just going to put cocktails picks in the strawberries and put the dip in a pretty glass bowl! -- It works for me :-)

I make 2 versions of this recipe. I will either stuff them with cheesecake (pre-made - just scoop!) or canoli dip which consists of ricotta cheese, confectionary sugar and vanilla then I dip the tops in melted chocolate....delicious!

Loved these! I liked the almond flavoring but next time I am going to divide the sugar mixture and use vanilla flavoring as well as lemon flavoring as suggested. Thanks!

Is the servings count accurate? It just seems that 36 berries is/are a lot from 1 pound of strawberries... well, unless they were smaller than the ones usually available to me.

Have a similar recipe from McCall's cookbook that i have been using for about 20 years....except it uses Lemon Extract instead of almond. I added a bit by topping it with a touch of of very finely crushed lemon drop candy instead of chocolate.

I have made this exactly and with a white chocolate-cream cheese icing. I replaced 3 oz of the cream cheese with unsalted butter (1/2 stick) and replaced the sugar with 3oz of melted white chocolate. If the little bit of butter is a concern for some, use light cream cheese. I am not one who is crazy about white chocolate but the cream cheese tones done the sweetness and it is really good with the strawberries. Plus, if you wish, you can omit the sprinkling of grated chocolate.

to the reviewer who is allergic to almonds - MOST almond extracts are actually made from the pit of a peach, no almond whatsoever. I know McCormick is safe for almond allergies - but to be safe, call the company!

I make this quite often for bridal showers or luncheons. I always get rave reviews and people ask for the recipe. I usually sprinkle chopped pecans over the top or roll the tops in the pecans, so they stay on better. Delicious!

 I would use vanilla. I don't like almond flavoring and I am going to try vanilla extract.  Hope this helps.

Absolutely delicious! For a different kind of topping, I've used crushed up graham crackers before (makes it taste like strawberry cheese cake) and I've also crushed up Oreo cookies and sprinkled on top. Delicious! Best to use a piping bag or use a baggie and cut a small hole in the tip to get the filling into the "x" - It's perfectly acceptable to squirt the leftover filling directly into your mouth! :-)

Made this for our family and got rave reviews! I cut back on the sugar and used low fat cream cheese and they were still delicious. Now with local berries coming into season, I'll be making some more!
