We started a 39-day Soup Challenge to eat healthier after the holidays, figuring if “Survivor” contestants could last 39 days on little food, surely we could survive on soup! This was a family favorite—chunky, hearty and smooth. —Debra Keil, Owasso, Oklahoma

Just didn't care for this recipe at all, and I love pea soup.

I made this for friends and they raved about it. One way to kick up the flavor a notch is to add a small pinch of cumin- nice!

This soup was VERY bland, I didn't like the flavor or the texture. It makes 6 servings. I served 4 servings (1 per person. ) My kids didn't like it and I ate it but didn't like it. I threw the left overs away. I won't make this again! I felt like I was eating food at a nursing home.....texture was terrible!

I also tried with small pieces of Smoked Turkey and it's delicious!

I thought it was just okay. It needed more flavor I think. The Canadian bacon was a nice addition but adding it at the end didn't allow the soup to absorb the flavor of it.

I have never been a fan of Split pea soup but decided to try it as tastes change over the years and I wanted to try and make one from scratch. This recipe has a great flavor and I will make it again as is and with my own variation of flavoring.

This soup has a great flavor, the peas give it a natural sweetness. I was in a hurry so I cooked my soup on the stove top. I substituted oregano for the thyme and I added one diced white potato. It was delicious, but the next day I added an entire can of vegetable broth to thin it down, but it was still delicious!

I used some leftover ham I had in the freezer from Easter and chopped it up & put it in the slow cooker in place of the bacon. The split peas were a little al dente, but that was fine with my husband and me. I cooked this soup on low in my slow cooker for about 7 1/2 hours. If you don't like your peas a little al dente, you could probably cook it longer. It was a very good soup and I particularly liked that I could make it in my slow cooker.
