Hearty Cheese Tortellini Recipe

Hearty Cheese Tortellini Recipe Hearty Cheese Tortellini Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 5

This is an easy, wonderful recipe that is simple enough for an everyday meal but good enough for company. It makes a large amount, so it feeds plenty of people. I serve it with steamed broccoli covered in a cheese sauce and fresh bread.—Christine Eilerts, Tulsa, Oklahoma

I've made this several times since I saw it in the magazine a couple years ago. This is has become one of my favorite comfort foods. Very hearty and filling, and easy to make.

I will have to double the recipe next time as it was gone too quickly.

This is a favorite at our house. My family was hooked the first time I made it. I actually substitued italian diced tomatoes with tomatoes with green chilies because that is what I had. It actually gave it a nice kicked up spicy flavor.

YUM! My crew really enjoyed this. I did add a couple extra dashes of Italian seasoning and crushed a couple cloves of garlic & thru in. I will definitely make again and maybe throw in a few extra veggies...this should camoflage them nicely from my little picky eaters.

This is a recipe that I will make again for family and friends. My husband really liked the flavor and that it wasn't weighed down with alot of spices. I just used oregano for the seasoning and a little salt and pepper. Fresh Italian bread and it made the meal complete. Yummy!

Is a slow cooker the same as a crock pot?

Reviewed on Jan. 19, 2011 by dkotagirl2

I think it sounds good on the stove top or the slow cooker. Sometimes it's nice to put it on ahead of time and be done with it even if you aren't busy. I will try it, sounds yummy.

I have a recipe that is almost exact to this. I have tried this different ways, cast iron pot on the stove top and slow cooker, also in a cast iron pot in the oven, low and slow. It is delicious every way but the stove top doesn't blend the flavors as much. Thanks for posting a great recipe. I use it all the time.

Not all gals here.......You want to take it to the next step? Get some flour tortillas and tear about 3 of them in bite sizes pieces and place in the soup 20 minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

I haven't made yet but I am going to tomorrow; when I get the stuff. Sounds great! The Great thing about soup is the Love that is put in it, so matter how you cook it, slow or stove. The aroma and the joy of tasting and stirring is why I do stove top methods. I am home all the time, but busy gals use the slow cooker. I have never made the same soup twice, the same; cause we always seem to add something different. That is whats wonderful about soups, you make them your own. Can't wait to try this one and of course I will add my own touches, don't we all. Love to All Cooks

I also don't like slow cookers. I have a defuser for my gas cook top and it works like a slow cooker. If you plan on staying at home. Cast iron pot.

I make a version of this in the slow cooker I add bell peppers, onions, 1 small carrot diced, 1/2 cup diced Celery, 1 bay leaf, Italian seasonings, garlic, oregano, basil, little sugar. I sometime put cooked Italian sausages cut into bite pieces. Let it cook on low in the crock pot .

I put the sauce over cooked spagetti, if there is any left in a couple of days, I make a lasagna with the leftover sauce add ricotta cheese, cheddar cheese, chopped spinach etc

Great favor! I always great rave reviews

Sounds wonderful - for all of those who do not understand the use of the slow cooker it is probably in order to help the spices and flavors to blend and make a great recipe. Think about when you make a great spagetti sauce - you let it cook for hours to blend the spices and flavors - what is better smelling or easier to make - Enjoy!!!!!!

Very good. Not too tought to make on the stove...just cook the meat as stated....then add the rest of the ingredients and cook until heated through!!

Reviewed on Jan. 19, 2011 by dsjorgy

I haven's made this but make something similar. Has no ground beef, just italian sausage, a jar of spaghetti sause and pepperoni. Mix it all together, top with a little more shredded mozzarella and bake for about 30 min. This is my son's favorite casserolle and so easy to throw together after a hockey practice or game. Whenever we have team feed all the boys ask for this.

Reviewed on Jan. 19, 2011 by rojoimages

Using a slow cooker makes NO sense here. Just heat the ingredients stove top. Makes no sense.

Reviewed on Jan. 19, 2011 by wombatt

all you have to do is cook your meat put in the rest cook thru then add totellini and heat thru and there your done no problem

Reviewed on Jan. 19, 2011 by carolkamps

Why can't you put a stove top alternative to the recipes? Not everyone like a slow cooker.
