This is really easy and very good. One variation I made was also very good -- I used the spiced gumdrops. Everyone liked that version even better than the original. Definitely a keeper for years to come!

It turned out really good, but it is super, super sweet.

I got rave reviews when I made this. I want to use mini gummy bears next time. To avoid the sugar not dissolving from the gumdrops I was thinking too, that the Dots candy could be used or gummy candies. This was a fun fudge, for the colors and flavors

Consider using part white chocolate squares. The candy coating is mostly tasteless, hence the low rating.

Loved this! A little different which made it my unique gift!

This was way too sweet for my tastes, not what i expected in a fudge. It is very easy to make, but wasn't a big hit with my family.

This candy was so easy to make and very pretty on the goodie platter. It tastes great, too.

Reviewed on Dec. 17, 2011 by crabbersmate

This is very sweet, but in a good way. You can't eat too much.

It looks very pretty on my cookie platters. I will make it yearly, only takes a couple on each plate to add that festive look.

This is my favorite kind of candy. I couldn't believe how easy it was to make!

I made this last Christmas and will make it again this year. Was a big hit! This is beautiful, festive, fun. Yes, it's sweet - have one. Use scissors to cut the gumdrops. I melted the white candy coating in the mircrowave. Quick easy delicious - was a big hit.

This fudge is a big hit every time I make it. I make 1 change. I double the salt to make it less sweet.

As others have said, this candy is very pretty and very sweet. I really liked the white "fudge" part of the candy and the fruity gum drops I used gave good flavor. However, the sugar on the outside of the gum drops did not dissolve, giving each bite a little sugary gritty crunch. Didn't care for that. I will definitely play with this recipe, though -- Maybe nuts instead of gum drops. Or maybe nuts with a tiny bit of caramel swirled through. Think it needs something salty added instead of sweet.

This is one of only 2 recipies from TOH that I've ever been disappointed in, & the other one was my fault (got water in the melted chocolate).

I made this DEC2010 as part of a gift package & I'm hoping the recipients liked it better than I did. (Some of the commenters here obviously like it.)

Yes, it's pretty, but it doesn't taste good.

I won't make it again.

I would change from the gum drops to the candied red and green cut up cherries. Just as pretty and maybe not so sweet?

Reviewed on Feb. 01, 2011 by mwalker21

It took forever to cut up the gumdrops into very small pieces. I ended up getting a blister on my finger. I even used the suggestion of putting the candy in the freezer for a few minutes prior. My grandparents loved these, but the rest of the family did not. The candy was indeed pretty.

This is super super sweet. I did not enjoy it very much but others loved it. As for the cutting up of gumdrops **USE SCISSORS** I have a dishwasher safe pair used only for food, saves a LOT of prep time in the kitchen.

100% awful did not like it at all . will not make again.

Reviewed on Dec. 23, 2010 by tsm5629

Very good and so pretty. I used the jumbo gumdrops by Zachary at Walmart. Putting them in freezer for 20 minutes made cutting them up much easier.

Reviewed on Dec. 23, 2010 by mousejockey2

everyone thought it was great, when chopping gumdrops, I droped them in a dish of sugar to coat the cut edges, they didn't stick together and were much easier to distribute evenly in the fudge.

Reviewed on Dec. 20, 2010 by himike

However, as a friend suggested because the gumdrops are such a hassle, next time I'll substitute craisins and pistachios for the drops.

This looked so nice on a cookie plate. wasn't sure how it would taste, but was really pleased when i tried it. I cut into smaller slices instead of squares. Really liked it!!

If you like Brach's nougat this is as close as you'll get. Awesomely easy and good!

very easy to make i made it to take to work everyone loved it

Reviewed on Dec. 15, 2010 by ninabugt

This was my first real attempt at fudge and it turned out perfectly! It tastes a little bit like the Brach's vanilla nougat candies. The most time consuming part was actually chopping the gumdrops, but next time I try a PP's idea of freezing them briefly beforehand. I used a 9" square pan and got exactly the 81 pieces stated. It cut beautifully and I'm so excited to see what others think of it.

Very easy and colorful! I used more gumdrops then recipe suggested and think it could of even used more.

Reviewed on Dec. 14, 2010 by pearlrvr

This fudge tasted good, but I used white chocolate instead of white candy coating and had a lot of issues. First, the white chocolate didn't melt very well and then when I added the vanilla extract the water in the extract made the white chocolate seize and I ended up with a ball of solids sitting in a pool of grease. I actually squeezed grease out of it and patted it into a pan and let it set up just to see what would happen. The result tasted good, but the texture was dense and not at all creamy. I'm sure it would have worked well with the candy coating, but I don't think I'll try it again.

I made these exactly as stated. I used the Wilton White Chocolate Candy Coating found at AC Moore's. And for the Gumdrops I used regular, most review's who said they used spiced gumdrops, you better read the recipe again..nowhere in the recipe does it say to use spiced gumdrops. The vanilla mentioned to use is Spice Islands Pure Vanilla....lol lol lol lol

Beautiful candy, however, choose sugared fruit slices instead of spice gumdrops.

My neices and nephews LOVED this fudge. It's very rich and creamy. I used spiced gumdrops which gave the fudge more flavor than regular gumdrops. The recipe was SO simple but it does not make 81 one inch pieces. It makes more like 40 one inch pieces. Wonderful recipe.

Reviewed on Dec. 23, 2009 by janave

Great recipe! Couldn't find regular flavored gumdrops (don't like the spice ones), but did find the large-sized gumdrops. I stuck them in the freezer for 1/2 hour and that made it easier to cut through. My son-in-law loves white chocolate, couldn't stop munching on these!! So festive-looking, served in a pretty candy bowl!

I made this the first year that it appeared in Quick Cooking and have made it every year since. It's easy, delicious, and makes a really pretty presentation. DGD took some to school for a Christmas party last week, and her teachers all asked for the recipe.

I loved this fudge recipe. Not only is it pretty and festive looking but it's delicious as well. It was a big hit at my son's school!!

Reviewed on Dec. 17, 2009 by sthall

This makes a rich, fun alternative to the classic chocolate fudge (my daughter doesn't like chocolate.) But instead of using the spice gumdrops, I substituted with the sugared fruit slice candy. I found the multi color variety hanging in bags at Walmart and they turned out fantastic. I did cut the candy up super-small like the previous suggestion and I think that was a good idea. Don't worry that the fruit slices get stuck together in a large clump. They end up separating in the hot white almond bark when you stir them in enough (I didn't take off heat until I was ready to pour in dish.) Also, I used an 11x7 casserole dish instead of the smaller pan. I plan on adding this recipe to my packet of regular desserts for future holidays. Yummy!

What is "white candy coating?" Is it same as white chocolate?

This is a gourmet fudge that tastes like it took hours . What a perfect fudge, soft, velvety, & oh so pretty. You wont be disappointed to give it a try

Very colorful and makes a great presentation! It's sooo easy and quick to make....and oh so yummie! The only change I made was substituting almond extract in place of the vanilla. Be sure to cut small pieces as it is very rich. Thanks for the recipe, it's a "keeper."

I made this recipe and the fudge did not set up. do you think I could reheat the chocolate and add more to get it to work?

Reviewed on Nov. 26, 2009 by mamsey84

This candy was 5-star rated by many, many people! It was so easy that I made it early on Thanksgiving morning and put it out for guests. It's a little rich but you find yourself going back later for another piece. I think it could be made for each holiday by changing the gumdrop colors accordingly. The only change I made was that I cut the heigth in two before I cut the squares. They were still good-sized pieces. Awesome recipe!

I made this a few year ago at Christmas and it was good. I forgot about it until a friend asked if I was going to make it for a church function. I plan to make it for a contest this year.
