This moist, old-fashioned cake is hard to beat, especially warmed up and finished off with a dollop of whipped topping. —Eckert Orchards, Belleville, Illinois

Loved it! Dressed it up for company with ice cream & caramel sauce topping. It was just like a fancy dessert at a great restaurant.

This recipe is a keeper! Moist and delicious. I used half all purpose flour and half King Arthur white whole wheat flour; it came out so light that next time I'm going to try all white whole wheat flour.

I LOVE this! My husband does too, it won't last long at our place. I added just a splash of nutmeg and ginger and a cup of old fashioned rolled oats into the batter. So delicious! (I also used Fuji apples and it turned out wonderfully.)

This cake is delicious. Since I have a pear tree, I substituted chopped pears for the apples and served it to company. We all thought it was a great cake.

why bother with whipping up some cream. Pour the real stuff over the top, sans whipping it or using cool whip.

I emailed this to my daughter and ordered her to make this IMMEDIATELY. She made versions with and without nuts - I liked without nuts better, but both were absolutely fantastic. Only wish we'd had some vanilla ice cream.

Oh my God. With all of the butter and sugar this is decadent and you suggest Whipped Topping? This deserves nothing less than the queen. WHIPPED CREAM. Excellent

Even better with lemon curd or lemon pudding.

Delicious! Changed pecans to walnuts because that's what I prefer. A great fall recipe for when apples are in abundance.

This is my grandmother's recipe! I have been making this cake since I was very young. The only difference is I add just a pinch of nutmeg or allspice.

I've made this twice. First time as recipe given and it is excellent. 2nd time I changed the cup of sugar to cup of Splenda for Baking and changed the Pecans for Roasted Walnuts, chopped. Pretty much the same tastes and moistness but Diabetic Friendly. Gonna try it again this tiem with a 1/4 Tsp of Nutmeg added and a Dark Chocolate Drizzle after it cools.
