"My children always looked forward to these after-school snacks," recalls Hazel Fritchie of Palestine, Illinois. "They're so fudgy they don't need icing."

Tip

Substitute for Nuts

If your family loves the crunch of nuts in brownies and chocolate chip cookies, but someone is allergic to them, add granola or crisp rice cereal in the same amounts as the nuts called for in your recipes. But, always check the granola or cereal packages for nut allergy alerts to be certain.

not sweet enough, the unsweetened chocolate was really bitter. A huge disappointment unfortunately

When I have tried other homemade brownie recipes, they always disappoint and I always default back to boxed mixes. This recipe is the exception! So yummy! I didn't use 2 full cups of walnuts...instead I did half walnuts & half chocolate chips.

I've made this one a few times, and I like to add white chocolate chips instead of nuts!
