Flavorful Swedish Meatballs Recipe

Flavorful Swedish Meatballs Recipe Flavorful Swedish Meatballs Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 5

Our kids—Garrett, 10, and Heather, 5—love to roll the ground beef and pork mixture into these moist meatballs. We enjoy them prepared in a creamy gravy. But the frozen meatballs also are great additions to soups and stews, or to stir into spaghetti sauce and serve over pasta. —Stacy Thomas Anchorage, Alaska

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS (for each batch):
  • 1 envelope brown gravy mix
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Dash each nutmeg and pepper
  • Hot cooked noodles

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the first 10 ingredients. Crumble meat over mixture and mix well. Shape into 1-in. balls (about 6 dozen).
  • Place meatballs on greased racks in shallow baking pans. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until a thermometer reads 160°. Cool. Place about 35 meatballs into each freezer container. May be frozen for up to 3 months.
  • To prepare Swedish meatballs: Completely thaw in the refrigerator. In a large skillet, prepare gravy according to package directions. Add meatballs; cover and cook for 10 minutes or until heated through. Remove from the heat; stir in the sour cream, nutmeg and pepper. Serve with noodles. Yield: 2 batches (35 meatballs per batch).

This recipe was a HUGE hit with my family. Even my youngest daughter who is going through a picky phase loved it and asked for seconds! After reading some of the other reviews, I did double the sauce ingredients which worked out perfectly for us.

AWESOME ! I will make these again. I would use 3pkgs. gravy with more sour cream for more sauce next time. I also added freeze dried chives...yumm!!

Lots of flavor. I added sautéd Crimini Mushrooms to the sauce. I used 1 & 1/2 packets of gravy mix and three meats: ground pork, beef and turkey.

My mom has been really picky in her Senior years and she said that this was great and that we should keep this in regular dinner rotation!

Was excellent, I did use an extra packet of gravy and next time will probably do 3, we really loved the sauce. The meatballs were great, the kids loved it!

Very flavourful meatballs and I love having enough to freeze also. Will definitely make this again but will double up on the sauce and add more sour cream next time.

I have made this recipe many times. It is a family hit! When I am pinched for time, I used the frozen italian meatballs instead. I also double the sauce, but that's just our preference because we love the sauce so much!

Very delicious!! My daycare loved it, and ate the whole thing!

Although I didn't try the sauce, I was looking for a pork/beef mixture for meatballs and decided to try this recipe. The flavor was outstanding and since they "all wouldn't fit into the container" (my hubby's words) he had to make the supreme sacrifice of eating 8 of them right away! This will definitely be my go to recipe for meatballs.

I don't ever remember liking Swedish Meatballs when I was younger but I decided to try it now that I appreciate a variety of dishes. I can honestly say these are the BEST swedish meatballs I have ever had! In fact, my whole family wondered at the flavor of these! The only thing I changed was the amount of sour cream (I put a whole cup) because the amount in the recipe yielded very little gravy. But other than that---absolute perfection. Thank you for this recipe! It is now a regular tradition in our home.

One of my family's all-time Taste of Home favorites! It is highly yummy, and I love how I get two batches from one preparation. The meatballs freeze beautifully and are a snap to get to the table. This is a winner!

Excellent recipe. My daughter enjoyed helping me shape the meatballs. I might cut back on the amount of onion powder and add a chopped onion to the meat ball mix next time, but other than that I'd make no changes. Try serving it over mashed potatoes instead of noodles.
