My best friend Rita O’Malley shared this irresistible Irish soda bread recipe. It bakes up high, with a golden brown top and a combination of sweet and savory flavors.Jan Alfano, Prescott, Arizona

This was the first time I ever made or tasted Irish Soda Bread, but it won't be the last! It was wonderful. Made it for a small dinner party and everyone really enjoyed it. Easy to make and delicious and it was just as good the next day. Thanks for a new favorite!

This was delicious and my husband loved it. I would make it again, but only if I have lots of people to eat it, for it was too much for two.

Tried this recipe for the first time on Saint Patrick's Day. Followed recipe exactly and it turned out great, everyone loved it. Made another one. Decided to lessen the sugar slightly and increase the b'milk slightly. Also put the raisins in hot water briefly before adding. Great recipe. Will make again and again.

I made this for our St. Patrick's Day brunch. Everyone loved it. Very easy to make and it tasted so butter. We like it with butter.

This was the first time I ever made (and ate) Irish soda bread. This recipe is easy, and the bread was delicious. I had buttermilk left over, so I made another loaf the next day. I followed the recipe as written, except I shorted the sugar (as I do in every recipe) and the raisins. This is a keeper -- thanks for sharing it!

The bread was easy to make and was moist and delicious. It was great toasted, too!

I've tried so many soda bread recipes I've lost count. I was skeptical about this one because it had no butter in it but decided to give it a try. It was wonderful. I didn't have a 9 inch cake pan so used a 10 inch casserole pan. It still rose quite high. My husband said it was the best soda bread I had ever made and that is saying something. I did make it with currants. I will definitely make this again and won't wait until St. Patrick's Day.

I have never had Irish soda bread and was anxious to try it. It turned out great and the family enjoyed it.

to the person who wants to put onions and cheese in this bread. Then it would not be Irish Soda Bread. Try some currants if you don't like raisins. You could also plump up the raisins in some boiling water before adding them to the bread just be sure to drain the raisins thoroughly before using them. I don't like candied fruit so I use raisins or currants.

Believe this recipe was in one of your other publications. I have made it with raisins, currants and candied cherries cut up (the kind used in fruitcake). There is no wrong way to make this bread. I am allergic to yeast and this recipe has been a life saver. Toast it and also make French toast with it.

I forgot to mention that I used zante currants instead of raisins.
The best Irish Soda Bread I've ever tasted. I am making it for the third time for a bake sale. It was a special request.

I've never had Irish Soda bread but it was delicious! I made it for St. Pattys Day. It tasted more like a cake than a bread. It looked way better too than those hard loafs you get at the grocery. Overall this was quick to prepare and is definetly going in the recipe binder. yum-o!

Delicious! Great texture and super easy to make. I made the first one with raisins but since I'm not a fan of raisins I didn't like it. Made another one without and it was perfect!

It was great out of the oven and even better the next day toasted. Next time I will cut the raisins back to 1/2 cup and add 1/2 cup mixed fruit. It would probably taste very good with some sauteed onions and cheese.
