where do you find milk chocolate english toffee bits? Can you use a chopped heath bar as suggested above?

Just baked these cookies for an end-of -the week special. Delicious. Everyone liked them and asked for the recipe. Baked them on parchment paper. They were a little sticky, so I lightly floured the glass.

Ok...I have yet to make this one but will do so soon...I just had to say that I thought I had such a clever and yummy idea. I took premade chocolate chip cookie dough and chopped up some heath bars aka english toffee bits and mixed them in. I put my made up cookies on the cookie sheet and could not wait...then, within 5 min...this HORRIBLE burn smell. I looked in the oven and each and every one were FRIED! Black! I was so upset. Hmmmm...I am not sure why. So I figured you can't bake english toffee? Anyone know what happened here? The oven was on the right temp. Do you simply have to have other ingredients with the toffee to balance things out? I mean, you could smell the burn before the 5 min. And yes, they were on the correct rack...I bake cookies a lot. My so called great idea turned into a disaster! :( I will have to try these cookies. I am a toffee fanatic!
