Perhaps “Down and Dirty Dessert” would be a better name for this delicious concoction from Kristi Linton of Bay City, Michigan, because you're going to want to put a spoon in each hand and go to town! It's just that good!

YUM! I made this for a halloween party. I stuck one of those plastic "bloody" hands in the middle so it looked like someone coming up from the ground. Everyone LOVED it.MDCrab2 I used your recipe. Thank your niece for me ;)

I have never made this with vanilla pudding-I use chocolate pudding and I also add gummy worms for the kids.

I was confused about all the comments about butter in this recipe, so I checked the recipe my niece makes for all our gatherings. She let us know she wouldn't be able to make the picnic on the 4th ,so that someone else would make it because she knows everyone looks forward to it. I thought I would post it in case anyone would like to try this one. DIRT 1 cup confectioner’s sugar 8 oz. cream cheese 1 pkg. (3 oz.) vanilla pudding mix (instant) 1 tsp. vanilla 1 ½ cups milk 16 oz. Cool Whip 24 oz. Oreo Cookies, crushed. (Buy 2-1 lb. pkgs. Only use 1 ½) Cream confectioner’s sugar and cream cheese until fluffy. Add vanilla pudding mix powder, vanilla and milk. Mix until smooth Fold in Cool Whip NOTE: Use your biggest bowl for mixing and folding. Makes a lot. Layer as follows 1 layer pudding mixture 1 layer crushed cookies 1 layer pudding mixture 1 layer crushed cookies ------------------------------------------------------------------

I am making this AGAIN, but for our church picnic. Everyone has loved it everytime I have made it thus far. Hey...why is everyone so hung up on the whole "healthy" label part?! Common sense would tell you to substitute light or fat free for the higher fat content items/sugar items, etc. I don't think there is a recipe at Taste of Home that I haven't altered in some way...the recipe is just a new idea I enjoy trying for my family and you can customize it however you wish. Frankly, after half a month in Ireland, bring on the good food America has to offer! How about we just eat some and then go for a bike ride or run post or pre eating? Life is short, enjoy!

I made this for my very picky family on our Memorial Day get-together. Everyone loved it. Very little was left over at the end of the day. I made few minor changes... I omitted the butter all together, I used skim milk and white chocolate sugar free pudding mix. Next time I will try the sugar free vanilla pudding and possibly the chocolate graham crackers in place of the Oreo cookies to cut down on calories. It was yummy!

this does taste good, but when i took it to the office, half was left over. and at work we tend to eat almost anything. maybe i crushed the cookies too fine. the result looked a little muddy and not wonderfully appealing in the pan. you can't really go wrong with cream cheese and butter and sugar! but i think those items were not really necessary. some people thought it was too sweet. i think icecream with oreos and cool whip would be better, and take much less time.

My ENTIRE family LOVED this! It was gone in one day!!! In fact, we finished it this afternoon and I am re-making it tomorrow morning, as to be ready for lunchtime dessert! It didn't look too appetizing as I was making it, but the next morning after being cold overnight in the 'fridge, I tried it after lunch...WOW...Good Stuff I tell you! Try It!

This was great. It tasted just like the dirt I used to have as a kid. Instead of putting it in a 13x9 pan, I put it in a large bowl and made a trifle, alternating layers of cookie and pudding mixture.

BUTTER??? I don't know about anyone else but I'm not a huge fan of eating uncooked cold butter in my pudding! YUK!! Why do you even need the butter?? I'm confused... anyways I dropped the butter and used all reduced fat, low sugar ingredients and no one could tell otherwise! It was nice and light after a meal.

This dessert is excellent and so easy to make, it's a keeper for sure. It's one my family makes whenever we want a special dessert and we will be making it many more times.

I put the worms in the freezer and when you take them out they move on top of the desert I also use light cream cheese 1% milk I use no added suger choc wafers and dream whip for the whipped topping really good for Diabetics when the adjustments are made I haven't used a artificial sweetening for the suger but I would think it would be ok It makes 20 servings so I just use a scant cup of suger

I like the sound of this, and can see how it COULD be healthy if one used light or fat-free choices for the cream cheese, butter, milk, sugar free pudding mix, and frozen topping. Why not put that in the original recipe and then call it healthy?

I make this very often for youth events at our church. However, I use white chocolate instant pudding mix. This is what my 22 year-old daughter requests for her birthday every year.
