Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
  • 1 package (12 ounces) vanilla chips

Directions

  • In a bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; add to the creamed mixture. Stir in oats, raisins, cranberries and orange peel. Stir in vanilla chips.
  • Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned. Cool on wire racks. Yield: 6 dozen.

Nutrition Facts: 1 serving (2 each) equals 188 calories, 9 g fat (5 g saturated fat), 27 mg cholesterol, 117 mg sodium, 26 g carbohydrate, 1 g fiber, 3 g protein.

When I found this in TOH many years ago, I made them to take with me to a Thanksgiving dinner. They were a big hit. I have made them off and on since then.

Are these a crisp or cakelike cookies. DH prefers the Crisp ones or maybe crisp on outside and chewy inside. thanks

These are excellent. This is a soft, chewy cookie with a wonderful blend of sweet and tangy flavors. One of my favorite TOH cookie recipes.
