My Mother made similar "turkeys" for years, but she used the chocolate mounds and round crackers (like HiHO). She would cut a sliver off on end of the cracker used for the fan tail - in this manner is was easier to set in the frosting. The candy mound was laid on it side and the candy corn attached like the one in the picture. The salty taste was good with the sweet candies.

TOH.... THANKS for making so many wives and moms look like top sweet dessert chefs with these turkey cookie creations ! These are so clever and easy and Tom Turkey always gets "flying colors" at whatever event (especially church)that I take them to. Take this simple idea and get creative with any candy & treat favorites, I added 4 candy corns to the back cookie for tail feathers... FUN & YUM for all !

I made these last year from Thanksgiving and everyone loved them. I used royal icing and the cookies stayed better. Will be making these again this year.

I made 48 of these little adorable turkeys for my grandchildren to take to school. The kids LOVED them! I didn't use the chocolate covered cherries but instead used chocolate donut holes that I purchased. They were quick and easy! I used chocolate frosting in a pastry tube to attach the two cookies together. Then to attach the donut hole, I used the chocolate frosting on the bottom and "back" of the donut hole. Again, a little frosting on the candy corn and just stuck it on. I froze the donut holes becaused I had purchased them a few days before the assembly. I wouldn't do that again. The glaze on the donuts got wet and the frosting had trouble sticking. After I let the holes sit out a while, everything worked out great. Thanks TOH for the smiles and giggles you gave to these kids!

We've been making these for years - love them! Since many kids don't like the chocolate covered cherries, we use donut holes. Either chocolate or plain work great and this way, the kids "gobble" up the entire thing!

I made these last thanksgiving for work and for friends. EVERYONE loved them! They are amazed how "how much patience you must have" to make them. EASY-PEASY! I also make them for Christmas with red/green candy corn!
