When I take these rich brownies to any get-together, I carry the recipe, too, because it always gets requested. Children of all ages love the tempting "cookie dough" filling. This special treat is typically the first to be gone from the buffet table—even before the entrees! —Wendy Bailey, Elida, Ohio

Tip

Substitute for Nuts

If your family loves the crunch of nuts in brownies and chocolate chip cookies, but someone is allergic to them, add granola or crisp rice cereal in the same amounts as the nuts called for in your recipes. But, always check the granola or cereal packages for nut allergy alerts to be certain.

Great combination. My daughter eats raw cookie dough, so I appreciate the egg-free dough.

The ganache makes it extra special, and I will make a little extra next time.

I also have used crushed peppermint chocolate, instead of the chips.

brownies were dry...will use different brownie recipe next time

Pound-cake like texture to the brownies. The cookie dough layer is less than 1/4" thick. I would increase the dough recipe by at least 50%.

This was awesome. If you love cookie dough and brownies you can't miss with this recipe.

I doubled the cookie dough filling. These are good, but I agree with other comments about the brownie portion being drier than I would normally like

This is a great recipe..even the big kids liked this one! Making for super bowl party. I added 1 tbsp of cocoa to the cookie dough portion. Using just 1 or 2 tsps of cocoa would be enough..more like a candy bar flavor! Super recipe! A keeper!

I made these for dinner with my neighbors, and everybody loved them! The recipe is very easy and quick to make, and could be made with ingredients that I had on hand. If I make it again, I will likely double the cookie dough portion of the recipe, but that is a personal preference-it is delicious as it is written.

With flour in the cookie dough part, don't you have to bake it?

I used my favorite boxed brownie mix and for a shiny, silky glaze, try melting a can of your favorite frosting on low heat, whisking to help keep smooth. When done, pour over filling and cool. A lot easier than making all from scratch and less time consuming, too!

My sister-in-law brought these bars to a girls family mini-vacation. Between 6 of us, we finished off the whole pan in 3 days. Every time I walked by the pan I had to take a small piece. They are irresistible. I am now making them for the co-workers. We'll see if they feel the same way as I do about them.

Love these! The brownie part is moist and soft, just don't overbake! If you do the toothpick test, test the sides. The center should be fudgey so crumbles on the toothpick are fine! Also, instead of cooling the brownies and doing another chocolate layer, I like to just sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top! It's super easy and looks fantastic!

I made these & took them to my college group & everyone absolutly loved them!!! And they were really easy to make also =D

A hit with everyone in my family, but I would like a softer, fudgier brownie layer. May play around with that part a bit, but overall, a great recipe!

Fantastic idea but the brownie layer themselves are nothing special. You'd never use the brownie recipe by itself, so next time I'll make brownies I LOVE and then layer the same cookie dough recipe on top. I added chocolate chips in the dough to make it seem like choco chip cookie dough. Great idea though and took them to a potlock and everyone loved them, just like I said, not the greatest base brownie recipe--I like them richer and gooier.

These were good, but my dad and brother thought they were a bit too sweet.

I haven't made this recipe in a couple of years, but it one of my absolute favorites. My sister made these for me the first time I had them and they became a fav... I have made them for parties and office potlucks and they are the first to go... The cookie dough filling is so wonderful that now my sister and I have taken to doubling it for some extra goodness... Actually I think I may make these tomorrow...

I love this! I have been making this recipe since high school and everyone loves it everytime I make it. If you follow the directions correctly, they will turn out wonderfully!

I have always used the recipe out of the original magazine, but couldn't find it so I came on line...I was SHOCKED to see anyone DISLIKED this!! My children have ALWAYS loved this recipe...as well as anyone I've made this for! The cookie dough portion is delicious and you don't have to worry about raw eggs...the kids have talked about using it to make home made cookie dough ice cream!! Follow the directions and it is amazing!!

Been making these for YEARS! since this recipe was first published in your magazine - maybe mid 90's.....OUR FAMILY BAR FAVORITE!

These brownies are great! I have been making them for years and everybody always loves them. I don't know how these could get a bad reveiw. If you overcook these they will get dry so pull them out when it says to even if you don't think they are done they probably are. If you follow the receipe, you can't go wrong! YUM!

These brownies are so delicious! I made them quickly, without waiting for the layers to cool, and they still tasted great!

Reviewed on Mar. 20, 2010 by Sascha18

These were wonderful! I don't see how some people had issues with these. I was in somewhat of a hurry so I had to spread the cookie dough on top before the brownies cooled completely and even put them in the fridge to chill while they were still somewhat warm. They still turned out amazing!

The cookie dough layer didn't taste like cookie dough, unfortunately. I hate to say this, but try another recipe, instead.

I tried this recipe for the sweet tooths in my family. They were delicious!!! You can NOT overcook the brownie, so bake for the time given. The cookie dough layer was heavenly (and you could taste it just fine!). This does produce a very sweet brownie-almost like fudge. I left out the nuts. Very popular with the kids!!

These were horrible! I made them for a party and I think two got eaten. Taste nothing like cookie dough!

Reviewed on Jan. 05, 2010 by 135

You can't taste the cookie dough layer at all. The brownie itself along with the icing is very good but you might as well leave out the cookie dough layer because you just can't taste it.

These were horrible! My two favorite treats cookie dough and brownies, I thought we couldn't go wrong. The brownies were dry, the cookie dough tasted weird, and the glaze did not spread well on top. I will never make these again!

The brownie was moist and the cookie dough was delish!!! My whole family loved it!

I was very disappointed in these! Two of my favorite things are brownies and cookie dough, but these were not good. The brownie was dry and yucky, and this cookie dough was bland. I took them to a function and came home with 3/4 of the pan. I don't recommend them.

I first made these when I saw them in the original magazine post and took them to a tailgate at my daughter's school - they were so popular that her friends and roommates were always asking for a batch when I would come visit. These are so very good!
