Old Fashioned Ham Bone Soup

This is my Favorite Pea Soup recipe since you do not have to soak the
peas overnight.When I want Pea soup I do not like to wait that long
so this was a bonus to me. AllieaOLD FASHIONED HAM BONE SOUPTo one
pound of green split peas add 2 quarts of water (8 cups)Bring to a
boil and boil 2 minutes.Set pan aside to soak for 1 Hour.DO NOT
DRAIN.Add a meaty Ham Bone(or recipe says 1 0r 2 Smoked Ham hocks..I
have never done that)If desired you can add a little carrot and/or
chopped onion at this stage.Cover pan .Simmer about 3 hours stirring
occasionally. Check because it sometimes takes less time or you may
want a little more water midway thru cooking.Remove bone Cut pieces
of diced ham from bone and add to soup. Season with salt and pepper.

desired
