Ingredients

  • 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 package (10 ounces) cinnamon baking chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened. Fold in chips.
  • Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 10-12 times or until dough is no longer sticky. Divide in half; gently pat or roll each portion into a 7-in. circle. Brush with butter and sprinkle with remaining sugar.
  • Cut each circle into six wedges. Separate wedges and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 425° for 10-13 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm. Yield: 1 dozen.

I make these delicious scones all the time for work. You can find generic or name brand cinnamon chips at a Woodman's, but I think they are only in IL and WI.

Several people have asked where to get cinnamon chips. I have not found them in the grocery store. We do have a bulk supply store near us. It is run by the Mennonite community. I can always find them there. I know that not everyone will have a store like this near them but if you have any kind of bulk store...check it out.

I have made these so many times and they are just AWESOME! Everyone I give them to adores them, my boyfriend eats them three at a time! I do substitute canola oil for the butter though, healthier and still super tasty!

These scones are fantastic. I did not have buttermilk so I used heavy cream instead. I didn't put butter and sugar on top but I made a maple icing and put that on them and then sprinkled walnuts on the icing. So good! Will make these often.

I received endless compliments on these scones! They had the perfect texture! And they were easy to make! I will be using the base of this recipe to try other flavor scones also.

Delicious! I couldn't find cinnamon chips so I chopped up 10oz of heath bar instead and it was very good.

I usually avoid scones because they are dry - not these! Absolutely delicious! I made them for a dinner party and every crumb was gone.

Very moist and delicious! Had a hard time finding the cinnamon baking chips at the grocery store but found them at Hershey's Chocolate World. Can anyone tell where they found the chips?

My sister Phyllis loves cinnamon chip scones from Panera. I searched the net far and wide and decided to try these - mainly because of the good wholesome ingredients with the butter, buttermilk and such and also uses a full bag of the cinnamon chips! They are great! I took 1/2 of them to my sister...and she says they are scrumptious! Will make again for special occasions! YUM!
