There's just something extra special about homemade applesauce. This simple recipe is tart and not too sweet. It makes the perfect side dish, especially with pork chops or a pork roast. —Deborah Amrine, Grand Haven, Michigan

I haven't purchased applesauce from the store in years. I'm confused with all the sugar added? That was one of the reasons I started making my own. I peel, core, quarter however many apples I need to make up my sauce, add a touch of water, cook till tender, then add cinnamon to taste. I've used Braburn apples for a very long time. Try it! You don't need all that sugar!

I don't like store-bought applesauce, but I really enjoyed this. Next time will probably cut back on the brown sugar a little...it seemed a little overly sweet...but still very good!

I much prefer chunky applesauce over smooth and I make mine with granulated sugar. Adding the brown sugar and vanilla makes the dish!

this is soooo simple and yummy!!! It made the house smell so good with the cinnamon! I can't wait for my girls to enjoy it as much as I did! A great way to use uneaten apples!! :-)

Chunky applesauce is so much better than the smooth kind. This recipe is GREAT.

I made this for the first time for Thanksgiving and it was amazing. This is now a Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter staple.

Yesterday, I made this applesauce for the first time and it was excellent. I will never go back to store bought applesauce again. I added one more teaspoon of cinnamon and it turned out very tasty. I also used a dollop of whipped cream to used a dessert. It is very good for breakfast or anytime during the day.
