INGREDIENTS

  • 8 cups chopped peeled tart cooking apples (about 3-1/2 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

In a Dutch oven, combine all the ingredients. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 30 to 40 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat; mash apples (a potato masher works well) until sauce is desired consistency. Serve warm or cold. Yield: about 3-1/2 cups.
