When I ask my husband what he would like me to bake, he often asks for these fudgy, nutty bars. They are his favorite! —Lisa Darling, Scottsville, New York

I pressed the topping into the chocolate, as was recommended by others and it worked pretty well. There were still a few crumbly pieces that fell off, but not so much I wouldn't consider making it again. They taste really good. The crust is like shortbread. I made it for a group tonight and was asked for the recipe!

I brought these to a card party and everyone went "nuts" over these bars. They are delicious! I pressed the crumb top sightly and baked about 10 minutes longer then suggested, checking with a toothpick. Also to set the crumb topping, I refrigerated the bars, taking out about 15 minutes before serving. That should solve most of the problems with crumbly topping some people mentioned. Enjoy!

Loved the cookie bars, but the top is so crumbly it falls off. I might try pressing it into the filling next time. Will definitely make again! Might try milk chocolate chips in the filling.

I made it twice just to be sure I hadn't done something wrong. I don't know why the recipe says to bake top until it "sets." NOTHING sets. Tastes good, but so messy it's not worth the effort.

Taste is good but too sweet. Also, the topping was quite crummy and messy when eating.

I was disappointed in the crust and crust topping. I assumed it would be like a moist shortbread but crust was very dry and crumbly making it difficult to cut as well as not tasty to eat. The crust topping was too powdery and didn't melt into the chocolate chips (which I thought it would). I ended up melting more chips and drizzling on top to try and hold the topping together which still didn't work. Wonder if drizzling caramel sauce over the top would help ?

These squares were good, but they were much too rich for my liking. I probably won't make these again.

I didn't have any nuts and used different kinds of baking chips instead (butterscotch, peanut butter, and chocolate), and I also added coconut. It was a different take on the "magic cookie bars." They turned out delicious. I'm sure they're great with the nuts, but we're not big fans of nuts in bars, because they tend to get stale and taste old fast.

The paramedics were called to my house over the holidays to take care of my mom. They were so kind to her we wanted to take a special treat to them. I found this recipe on another website and thought it sounded good. GOOD? Let's say FANTASTIC! I agree that is is almost like a candy bar instead of a cookie. I used a pan one size bigger than a 9 x 13 so I could 1 1/2 the recipe. That way I could share some and still have some for home. Enjoy!
