Chocolate Coffee Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 4 teaspoons baking cocoa
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and sugar; cut in butter until crumbly. Set aside 1-1/4 cups for topping. To the remaining mixture, add cocoa, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, salt and cloves; mix well. Stir in raisins and nuts. Make a well in the center; pour in buttermilk and stir just until moistened.
  • Transfer to a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Yield: 12-16 servings.
