Cheesy Onion Breadsticks Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup biscuit/baking mix
  • 2 tablespoons 2% milk
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons butter, melted

Directions

  • In a small bowl, combine the biscuit mix, milk, cheese, onion and garlic powder. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8-10 times. Roll into a 4-in. x 6-in. rectangle. Cut lengthwise into four strips. Place on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.
  • Bake at 375° for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with butter. Yield: 4 breadsticks.

Nutritional Facts 1 breadstick equals 108 calories, 6 g fat (3 g saturated fat), 13 mg cholesterol, 249 mg sodium, 10 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, 3 g protein. Diabetic Exchanges: 1 fat, 1/2 starch.

Shred and Freeze Cheese

It’s usually cheaper to buy cheese in blocks than in shredded form. So I purchase large quantities of cheddar, Monterey Jack and mozzarella, then shred them myself in my food processor. I store the shredded cheese in the freezer in heavy-duty resealable plastic bags, so I have it at my fingertips whenever it’s needed. —Evelyn O., Parma, Ohio
