I cut the recipe in half since I was only cooking for two. It gave us plenty and enough for leftovers. If you like your cheesy corn sweet, then add the sugar. If not, I wouldn't. I only added about 1/4 of the sugar the actual recipe calls for and it was almost too sweet for my taste. I also added some course ground pepper and substituted cheddar for the American cheese. This is a hearty "set it and forget it" type of side dish. I served it with the Berry Delicious Barbeque Recipe (ToH) and it was the perfect compliment.
