I created this candy by combining my husband's favorite cookie recipe and my mom's caramel dip. These sweets really appeal to kids...plus, they can help make them!—Tamara Holschen, Anchor Point, Alaska

I was suprised at what a huge hit such a simple recipe turned out to be. I found it a little tricky to get the caramel at just the right consistency but, otherwise, no problems at all.

I'm not rating this recipe; but, I make these also w/o the cinnamon or vanilla extract every Christmas. I roll the whole marshmellow in Rice Krispies and I only have known these as "Goof Balls". I will try this recipe & see how I like it

I will cut the caramel recipe in half next time but I will make it again!

These were a big hit but they definitely need to be refrigerated or they get sticky.

This was much easier to make than what I had expected and was a HUGE hit at a family birthday party. Several family members requested the recipe to make these for their own holiday parties!

I followed the recipe exactly but used crushed graham crackers (per another review) and drizzled chocolate and white chocolate over the top. Will make these again...they were a big hit

These were a big hit with my coworkers. They were really easy to make and fairly quick. Rather than use the wrapped caramels, I used 1 bag + part of another bag of the ready-to-use caramel bits found in the baking section at the grocery. The cinnamon added a nice flavor to the caramel. Even my husband, who can be quite picky when it comes to homemade candy, loved them. They would be good dipped in chocolate and/or nuts as well. Thanks for the recipe!

Made these when my son was in school for snacks to take to school. Everyone loved them so have resurrected the recipe for the three grandsons now. Daughter-in-law loves them too. Just made a batch yesterday. Was wondering though, can I freeze them?

These are the best, and I will make again.

I made these for our church bake sale and people loved them! I used red and green toothpicks and colored the cereal red and green also. I divided the cereal into two gallon-sized bags and added one tsp of liquid food coloring to each bag. After shaking until the color was evenly distributed, the cereal got a little chewy. I spread the cereal on a rimmed cookie sheet and baked it at 200 degrees for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until it was crispy again. When dipping the marshmallows, I followed someone else's advice and spun the toothpick between my thumb and forefinger to remove excess caramel before dipping in the cereal and I didn't have any problems with puddles at the bottom. My 7 year-old LOVES these!

These are delicious! The butter adds a great creamy taste. I was hesitant about the cinnamon but it was wonderful; it compliments the caramel very well.

These were very tasty but they are very time consuming

Concerning the person who stated that these were 'gross' and threw them away, I can't even imagine why anyone wouldn't at least 'like' these. I made them last year at Christmas, and the crowd went wild over them. I thought they were the best sweet snack I'd had in years. Absolutely delicious!! I've been forewarned by family and friends that these NEED to be on our Christmas celebration table this year!!!

I had the best time using this caramel recipe. I try all kinds of food on sticks and this was the easiest and most fun! I dipped my marshmallows in the caramel (I omited the cinammon when I made my batch) and when they set up, I dipped them in chocolate and decorated with nuts and sprinkles. They turned out pretty and tasted awesome. I've already shared this recipe with my cousin who can't wait to try it out for herself. I definately will be making these again!

I made this for an office Christmas Party. I couldn't find decorative toothpicks so I used straight pretzel sticks. I thought they were okay, but everyone else seemingly loved them. I HAVE to make them all the time now.

Wow! I made these for an ADULT bday party and everyone went nuts for them! They didn't come out as neat or covered as the picture but they were still so very good!!

I made these at our annual family baking day and they were a hit. After dipping in the cereal I also dipped them in chocolate and put them into mini cupcake papers. The choc. formed around the papers and made them easy distribute to different platters. Thanks so much to Smokeydijon for the wonderful tips...they helped alot. I also want to try the "smores" version. Sounds yummy. Yes, will definitely make these again.

I made these last year for our New Years Eve gathering.... friends from last year asked if I was making them again this year!!! AND we had not even decided if we were going to have a gathering... so with that being said... we are now!! Because EVERYONE raved about these "little drops of heaven"!!! (Oh, add the chocolate too as someone stated!) Very very very very good and EASY treat to make!!

These are absolutely delicious! I'd give it 10 stars, if I could. :) I originally got the recipe from a Taste of Home cookie booklet a couple years ago. Everybody loves them. Yes, they do eventually get so they're not tacky to the touch (but what I found is best in order to pack them for giving is to finely grind the rice cereal, and then coat the entire marshmallow in it. Otherwise, even though they won't feel tacky, if two marshmallows touch together, they tend to stick together a bit). It is quite runny to start with, but I found that makes it way easier to coat the marshmallows. To get off the extra caramel, I hold the dipped marshmallow by the tooth pick over the pan with the caramel (but above the caramel), and then quickly roll the toothpick back and forth between my thumb and index finger for a second. The extra caramel flies off (into the pan). It DOES temporarily make them look like a porcupine, with all sorts of needles of caramel sticking out, but that goes away with time. Then I roll them in the cereal, and I no longer get a pool of caramel at the bottom (like I would when I wouldn't get much of the extra caramel off). The times when I did get a pool of caramel at the bottom, I would just fold that over to the shape of the marshamllow (once cooled) and it was fine. Eventually the caramel starts cooling before you're done. I find that makes it way harder to coat. Makes it too thick. So I heat the caramel up briefly again. Another solution would be to put it in a slow cooker while doing it to keep it warm. I tried putting the pan over another pan of hot water, but that didn't work overly great. As a side note, this caramel makes YUMMY turtles (I think I like them even better than the marshmallows, which is saying a lot. For the turtles you need to let it cool completely before using or it will run all over the place). Also, when I'm done with the marshmallows but have extra caramel, I pour it onto buttered wax paper (needs to be buttered, I learned the hard way :). Let it cool and then cut and eat (or cover with chocolate, cut and eat). This is one of my favorite recipes of all time. I think it's the softness (not chewy) of the caramels, along with the cinnamon. I use store bought marshmallows. Imagine how good they'd be if you had the time to make your own marshmallows for it! If you're interested in giving them to people, I found the perfect container. Those little mini muffins or mini cupcates from the grocery store. The plastic ones that have a small hole for each muffin or cupcake. These caramels fit perfectly in there and makes it easy to pack for gift giving. I collect them during the year, and have friends save their containers for me also (as I don't normally buy a lot of that stuff).

I have made these before. very gd. You do have to let the caramel set up before dipping in cereal or it does get very messy.

Does the carmel ever set-up? (not remaining

I have made this recipe several times. My entire family, ranging from 3yr-56yr old, loves it. I do one more step after they have been dipped in cereal I let them set and then dip in melted white and/or dark chocolate on the top half only. They are fantastic!!

Made these for my daughter's bday treats for her class and they loved them. Very unique and taste great! Had a problem at the beginning after dipping them in cereal, caramel would run off and look messy. Make sure to let excess caramel drain before dipping in cereal. Good recipe!
