These are my favorite muffins to serve with a cup of coffee or a tall glass of cold milk. Not only are they great for breakfast, they make a tasty dessert or midnight snack. I get lots of recipe requests whenever I serve them. The espresso spread is also super on a bagel. —Janice Schulz, Racine, Wisconsin

Tip

Big Batch Baked Goods

We enjoy homemade baked goods for breakfast, but I don’t have time to bake each morning before school. So I devote 1 day a month to making large batches of cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, cream cheese rolls and muffins. I place them in heavy-duty resealable plastic bags labeled with the date. (They freeze for about 2 months.) On busy mornings, it’s a snap to pop a few in the microwave to warm. The kids love the fresh-baked flavor. —Lori T., New London, Texas

This is one of my favorites! I do cut the butter to 6 T. and the sugar to 2/3 c. in the muffin portion. You will not be disappointed in these! Delic!

I have yet to try this. What can i substitute for 2% milk, can i use whole milk instead?

We really enjoyed these muffins. Coffee and chocolate are such a great combo!! Didn't make the spread, we liked the muffins as is.

great coffee and chocolate taste... the spread was great by itself.

Very yummy muffins! I didn't think they had a ton of coffee flavour but still really liked them.

I followed the recipe except I used 1T. of baking powder because I had a similar recipe that I liked for blueberry muffins that called for 1T. These were really very good. There seemed to be a lot of butter that came through the paper baking cups on the bottom. I am wondering if we couldn't use a little less butter in the recipe. I tried this recipe so I could bring the muffins as a hostess gift this evening. I will certainly be proud to offer these up.

I have been making these for years and they are absolutely wonderful! I don't always make the cream cheese topping. They are great without it, but I sometimes serve these with cinnamon butter.

Very Good! My husband eat them as soon as they were out of the oven.

What a nice recipe! Very tasty and the cream cheese topping is delicous. I made the recipe as written, except I didn't have mini-chocolate chips, so I rough chopped milk chocolate chips.

Very good.Only extra I did was to add some chopped walnuts. We love nuts in our muffins.

I love these muffins! I used the idea of lowering the fat mentioned in the posts, and it still tasted wonderful!!!! I love the spread - even my siblings who don't like coffee love these muffins!

These muffins are amazing! A great combination of coffee flavor combined with sweetness and chocolate. What could be better? I made them for an early morning meeting at work and they were a huge hit.

I have made these SEVERAL times and LOOOVE them. Sometimes I make the espresso spread but most of the time I do not because they are good on their own and it saves calories. I also make mine mini size and cut the baking time to about 6-7 minutes. Try em, you'll like em!!

These are delicious! My daughter is gluten free so when she comes up to visit, I make these with 1 cup of rice flour, 2/3 cup of Bob's All purpose flour, 1/3 cup of cornstarch, and 2 tsp. of xanthan gum instead of the flour. You can barely tell that they're gluten free and sometimes they even taste better than the normal recipe!

These are delicious! I did replace the melted butter with 1/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce. I only used 1/2 cup mini chips in the batter. For the spread I used Neufchatel cream cheese. My goal was to make them a tad more diet friendly! :) My friends at work loved them!

Delicious! Quick! Simple! Had no cream cheese to make the spread, but great on their own. I like MuffinMazing's idea of putting the spread in or on the muffin before baking, too!! My co-workers will love them!!

These were delicious. I only made 12 muffins, because I filled them almost to the top. I didn't make the spread. My son took a couple to work, and texted me to tell me they were an excellent breakfast. I guess I'll be making them again!

These muffins are amazing! My sister absolutely loved them and would hide them from the rest of the family so that she could have them all to herself. I doubled the cream cheese recipe because we thought it was so good. You can even eat the cream cheese on regular bagels as well. This is definitely a make again and so easy!

These were super good! They made my house smell like a coffee shop! I ended up putting a sprinkle of cappuccino mix on top and 2 Tbsp in the batter too. That made them!
