Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 French bread baguettes (10-1/2 ounces each), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 cups (16 ounces) crumbled blue cheese
  • 5 eggs
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  • In a small skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion; cook and
  • stir until softened. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring
  • occasionally, for 20 minutes or until onion is golden brown. Add
  • garlic; cook 2 minutes longer.
  • Place half of the bread in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish.
  • Layer with onion mixture and half of blue cheese. Top with remaining
  • bread and blue cheese.
  • In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, egg yolks, cream, salt and pepper.
  • Pour over bread; let stand for 15 minutes or until bread is
  • softened.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 40-45 minutes or until a knife
