We had a lot of fun rolling this up as a family. We took leftovers to a large gathering and they were quickly gobbled up. So easy - I am no baker and pies intimidate me. This is completely doable for those of us who rely on refrigerated pie crusts! I especially love that I didn't have to peel and cube the apples! Just used my apple wedger, trimmed a little, and then ready to go!

easy and fun to make, can heat leftovers or just eat as is.

Have made these twice, the first time with puff pastry--one sheet for two apples. The second time with the refrigerated pie dough. Yummy either way. I have an issue with the directions for cutting the dough. Refrigerated pie dough comes in two ROUND sheets, so if you cut the pieces about 8" long, you are wasting a WHOLE lot of dough, so I cut the dough into 8 wedges and wrapped one wedge around each slice. The next time I make this, I will cut each round sheet into an 8" square, use the curved edges for four slices and cut the square into 1" slices. This way I can make 3 apples with two sheets of pastry. The puff pastry was delicious as well, but is more expensive than the pie dough. Also the second time I used only 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon, as the first time I had a lot of sugar left over. I also tossed the apples in the mixture, before wrapping them. Used up the smaller amount.

Couldn't wait for a visit with 2 of my great grandchildren to try this. Ages 4 and 7, they like apples and this was a big hit. Especially when they got to the cooking. They will want to do it again and the other great grandchildren will want a turn too.

You will not believe what happened...I goofed up and sprinkled Paprika on the dough instead of Cinnamon inside. My son came up and asked me what I was making and he said, "With Paprika???...I said no, "with Cinnamon"!!...Well, that's not Cinnamon...holy cow!!!! Since it was too late, there was nothing I could do, I sprinkled the Cinnamon on the outside w/ the butter and additional sugar...IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE...they tasted GREAT! So, from now on, I'm going to make half with Paprika and half with Cinnamon ALL THE TIME! Great recipe and easy, fast clean up...but you have to make sure you're wearing the right glasses when sprinkling spices, cause I am not sure it would go as well if you make the same mistake I did with say....Bay seasoning.

This recipe is fantastic. My father loves apple pie and when I don't want to do a whole pie, these are fabulous. I can whip them up in no time. I don't do the egg wash and sometimes I add a little extra cinnamon/sugar and butter. I use whatever apples I have on hand - they are that good. But the Granny Smith works the best! I make these again and again and recommend them. So simple the kids can help you bake.

Great idea--these are so good! I make half the recipe, using 1 apple and 1 crust, and it's much more manageable than an entire pie for 2 people. We like them warm with a little ice cream or some cheddar.

Delicious, and impressive-looking! I agree with those who cut the pastry in thinner strips. Otherwise, there is quite a lot of pastry in proportion to the apple. The parchment paper is essential; makes cleanup of the sticky sugar that leaks out a snap.

Such an easy recipe. I cut the pastry in smaller strips to get 10 per sheet. That way I used my apple slicer/corer (which makes 10 sections per apple. Used a large fuji apple and granny smith apple. Liked the fuji apple better. I left the skin on. Yummy!

I have made this recipe a lot. It is a big hit in my house. I actually use refrigerated crescent roll dough. Yummy!

These were super easy & very addicting, would be great for a party! I modified the recipe a bit - I used a premix cinnamon / sugar blend and tossed the apple slices in it before rolling in the dough instead of sugaring the dough. After they were rolled, I brushed the pies with butter and sprinkled with the sugar mixture before baking - YUM! Everyone loved them!

Sounds yummy and so easy, planning to make this afternoon.GinnyB, it probably depends upon which type of apple as well as where they were grown. There's info online about which type of apples are best in different cooking situations. I found it was a great reference for me. :)

I made a half batch of these today - very easy and tasty! I left the peel on the apples, I used JonaGold since the store was out of Jonathans. Peel was not tough, apples were completely cooked and held their shape. Also, I put in just a pinch of nutmeg. My husband loved them and told me to make them for Thanksgiving instead of taking a whole pie to our family dinner.

Wow - what a guilt free yummy treat! Easy to make and eat. We will definitely make this again (maybe next time for friends and family). Next time, I will peel the apples.

GinnyB, It is best to peel the apples because the skin will be rather tough.

Last night 2 of my grandkids (ages 3 and 5) helped me make these. The 3 year old said this was more fun than playing. We used refrigerated crescent roll dough. It worked great. I lowered the oven temp to 375, they were browning too quick. Turned out great and we all loved them.

Served these warm with cinnamon ice cream - SOOO GOOD! I used brown sugar instead of white and had to bake them closer to 20 minutes. Next time I will peel the apples as the tough peel was distracting when eaten. Very easy to make and safer than having a whole pie around!

Could not get the apples off the parchment paper and the apples were very mushy. It sounded so good and like it would be so fun. Not sure what I did wrong any tips would be appreciated.

These were fun to make and a nice treat without all the calories of a full piece of apple pie. I also could not tell if the apples were peeled in the photo, either, but decided not to peel mine (Granny Smith). My only trouble was that I did not have parchment paper. I sprayed a cookie sheet with Pam and took the "pies" right off the tray as soon as they came out and scooped off the burned sugar that, when hard, is really hard to get off. This sugar that oozed out and burned caused my oven to smoke a lot (and set off my smoke alarm). But still worth making!

This looks so good. I havn't tried it yet, and I'm going to make it in the next week or so. I don't really like pie, but this looks so good, I would totally eat this. To answer the question below, I can't tell either if the skin is on the apples, but I say no. When I make it this week I'm going to peel the apples. I will post how I liked it after I make it, but it looks so GOOOD!!!!

I just tried this since I was feeling lazy, but wanted an apple treat. Wow!! I got two, because my 21 year old son smelled them and poof! gone. I added a bit more cinnamon since we love it, but this is a great recipe, quick, easy, tasty, I will double it next time, which will be tomorrow.
