Bacon-Wrapped Tater Tots Recipe

Prep/Total Time: 25 min.

Yield: 32 Servings

Ingredients

16 bacon strips, cut in half
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
32 frozen Tater Tots

Directions

Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until partially cooked but not crisp. Remove to paper towels to drain; keep warm.
Combine syrup and pepper flakes. Dip each bacon piece in syrup mixture, then wrap around each Tater Tot. Secure with toothpicks.
Place on a greased rack in a 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan. Bake at 400° for 12-15 minutes or until bacon is crisp. Yield: 32 appetizers.

Really?!?!?!? My review showed up 4 times?!?!? Tried to delete, but can't. Sorry folks!!

Wish I had read the previous review before making these. While the flavor was good, the process was flawed. As the previous reviewer said, you cannot put a toothpick in a frozen tater tot. And frozen tater tots don't bake at 400 for 12-15 min. I had to bake for about 10 extra minutes and by then the bacon was burned, and the tots were soggy and just warm. I too had issue with the bacon falling apart so I just laid it on top of the tots to bake. I also lined my baking sheet with non-stick foil and that was the best thing I did...made clean up a breeze with the sticky mess. One more thing, I had way too much maple syrup/pepper flakes left over, could have done with only 1/4 cup of syrup. Not sure I would make this again. Too much trouble.

First, the tater tots can't be frozen, because you can't put the toothpick thru the tater tot frozen. Second, the bacon, even cooked ahead of time by half, really shrinks and it all falls apart. Lastly, the syrup gets really stringy after you pull them out. Good thing I tested this recipe before the holidays!
