Bacon-Chive Tossed Salad Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup creamy Parmesan Romano salad dressing
  • 2 tablespoons minced chives
  • 4 cups torn Bibb or Boston lettuce
  • 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup real bacon bits

Directions

  • In a small bowl, combine the salad dressing and chives. In a salad bowl, toss the lettuce, onion, cheese and bacon. Serve with dressing. Yield: 6 servings.

Nutritional Facts 1 serving (1 each) equals 188 calories, 16 g fat (6 g saturated fat), 27 mg cholesterol, 452 mg sodium, 5 g carbohydrate, 1 g fiber, 7 g protein.

Tip

Keeping Lettuce Fresh

To store lettuce to keep it crisp and fresh, wash lettuce in cold water and drain very well. Use a “salad spinner” or pat it dry with paper towels. Store in a resealable plastic bag or airtight container with a dry paper towel in the bottom to absorb any leftover moisture. (Be certain to replace the towel if it gets wet.) For extra-crispy salads, you may want to use a lettuce variety like romaine that’s naturally more crisp.

This was good but I couldn't find the dressing... Substituted Ranch instead...

This salad was good, but I could not find the Parmesan/Romano dressing so I substituted a Parmesan Peppercorn. It sounded good but tasted sour. I will try a different brand next time.
