This recipe was a big disappointment. The glowing reviews were in sharp contrast to my experience. Don't even know if I'd want it sitting on top of a baked potato!

A really good dip, guests loved it. I made half of this dip for 6 people and it was more than enough, would reduce the quantity again next time around. Used 3 green onions (not 1-1/2) and 1 c of Oscar Mayer bacon bits, which turned out to be a bit too much. Added half a can of well drained rotel and made the dip the night before. Will make it again for sure.

I kept looking for more seasonings and couldn't believe it really didn't need any. I made this just as written, except took one shortcut. I bought precooked bacon at Sam's. Cooked it in the micro and cut it up with kitchen shears. I also read earlier reviews and drained my roma tomatoes well, even patted them, with paper towels. Delicious just as written.

Followed the recipe exactly except used low fat sour cream and light mayo for a group of 10 people and everyone loved it and ate it generously but it was still too much. Served with thinly sliced baguette and finely shredded lettuce on the side. I cut the raw bacon in to small pieces to cook using regular carefully washed scissors - much easier than trying to crumble slices of cooked bacon . Used scissors to cut the green onions as well. Loved the idea one reviewer suggested of adding ranch dressing mix and will try that next time. Used the leftover dip as a sandwich spread on a roast beef sandwich. omg it was sooo good. Thanks for a great recipe!

This was delectable. Easy enough to make. I didn't like the taste of the bacon bits even though they were real bacon. Used real bacon, and low fat mayo and sour cream. Also halved the recipe since it was for a smaller crowd. Not a drop left. great recipe for super bowl parties.

Has anyone tried this substituting plain greek yogurt for the sour cream, to cut down on the calories? Thanks

OMG! This was SO delish! I was having a for a large, casual, party , so I prepared it the day before to let the flavors blend. I could barely keep myself out of it and it was a big hit with my guests! I served it with Pita chips. So easy! Well...let me paraphrase...it was mostly easy except for the "making the bacon" part. 2 lbs! Yikes! Of course, my much-more-experienced-in-the-kitchen sister says she would have cut up the bacon first, then fried it in a deep saute' pan.(Duh! why didn't I think of that?!) She says that's so much easier and a lot less greasy than what I did...microwaving/using a skillet with regular sized bacon strips. I will definitely do that next time as I do not care for the chewiness of "fresh" bottled bacon-bits, which was what I might have tried next time I make it...Good thing she gave me that tip as I just think there is no comparison between bottled real bits versus making it yourself. This recipe also got high marks from my niece who I'd sent it to along with a couple others in my family...she took to to a family get-together and reported it was completely gobbled up. She reports they'll all be making it from now on when a dip is in order. So...if you are so inclined...give it a whirl! Just don't make it too far in advance so you have some left to serve to your guests! I forgot to mention, I made this with Low-Fat Mayo and Low-Fat Sour Cream - still yumm-o!

I have made this for years and its always a favorite! My secret time saver is to use real bacon bits or crumbles. Also, I mix the bacon, sour cream, & mayo night before and let it meld together in frig. When I get ready to serve I add diced and seeded tomato and shredded lettuce. I also use toast instead of chips or crackers to make it taste authentic!

I've used the same ingredients for years to make the stuffed cherry tomatoes and this ip. Both are a hit. I was asked to bring them to many parties. I micro-wave my bacon (not greasy then), but after frying or nuking, make sure the bacon is cold before adding mayo and sour cream, otherwise it can crudel.

I did not use this as a dip, but for a topper for a potato bar night. It was OFF the charts, and inhaled in nothing flat. Next time I might add a bit more crumbled bacon, but that's all I'd change.

This recipe has been a hit with my family for a very long time! One easy way to prepare the bacon is to cut it into little pieces before you fry it. Makes it much faster for frying and you dont have to get your fingers greasey twice! And it has a much better flavor if you make it the night prior to needed it :)

This is a great recipe and I have used one very similar to this for years. I have always served this on a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce so everyone gets some "L" with their chip or toast. Be sure to add coarsely ground black pepper!

I loved the flavor of this reciepe but was very disapointed in the fact that it was watery. It looks thick in the picture but was not when I made it. I even deseeded the tomatoes the second time I made it to see if that would help but it did not.

I made this for a house party tonight, and it was such a hit, the bowl was wiped clean. I used about 9 oz. of the "real bacon" stuff I found in the store and it really made the recipe so easy. I served it with pita slices & bagel chips, but someone had Fritos, and the corn chip & dip combo was soooo delicious.

I added 2 cans of drained RO-TEL diced tomatoes&green chilies to my dip for the for the 4th of July. Then on top along with the green onion and bacon I added one seeded tomato chopped. It was a really big hit with our group of friends. They always count on me to bring the best dips. We love a little heat to our dips and this did the trick.

Another easy hint: Use the real bacon bits instead of cooking bacon strips. This makes this a very easy recipe to both make and clean up after.
Amazing bacon flavor! I added about 1 teas. garlic powder and let sit overnight to blend the flavors... When served, this dip disappeared!

I made this for a family get-together and it was a real hit! The "10 minute" prep time is totally unrealistic. Cooking two pounds of bacon, chopping six tomatoes, slicing three onions... if someone can accomplish this in less than ten minutes, I want that person in MY kitchen!

Where is the letuce in this recipe? What kind do I use?

My family has made something like this for a long time. Instead of onions we add shredded cheddar cheese -- we put cheese on BLTs for those in the family who don't like tomatoes. Instead of crackers, we toast bread, cut off the crust, then cut each piece into four triangles -- this will really make the recipe taste like a BLT.

Hi rshanna ... to me, the red slivers almost look like red bell peppers but, since they are not an ingredient, I'm guessing it's slivers of the plum tomatoes? Not sure what the really dark (almost black) part of the garnish is though. I doubt they fried the bacon to such a crisp that it turned black. :-)

There is something additional in the garnish that is not listed in the ingredients or the in the directions. Does anyone know what it is? Something red. I am guessing it might be dried tomatoes. What do you think?Whatever it is, I like the added color.
