These quick hors d'oeuvres may be mini, but their bacon and tomato flavor is full size. I serve them at parties, brunches and picnics, and they're always a hit...even my kids love them. —Kellie Remmen, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota

I made these for a dinner party and everyone loved them. They're so yummy and cute. I used a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon to scoop them out, it worked really well.

I served these at my dinner party last night - they were a huge hit... Easy to make, even better to eat!! I used a cake decorating bag to squeeze the filling into the tomatoes after I scooped them out and drained them - YUMMY!!

I had a hard time scooping out the tomatoes and got frustrated so, I chopped up the tomatoes and just mixed all ingredients together and spread on crostini ... everyone loved them and asked for the recipe!

This recipe was a hit at my Christmas party!!! Everyone was like this is so delicious and once my mother told them how long it takes they all were like can I please have that recipe. I passed it along so this is going to be a hit at other peoples gatherings! :)

These are fantastic! I used a little larger size tomato, the campari tomato, rather than the cherry tomato. This made them both easy to remove the "guts", as well as having a larger opening on top, which made them easier to fill with a small spoon. No need then to use a plastic bag to put the filling in. The amount of filling works out perfectly for 20 campari tomatoes. Delicious!!

I have made these every Christmas since they appeared in TOH. If I forget, I'm quickly reminded by my family. Labor intensive, but so delicious. My daughter was in charge of making these one year, and she took the filling ingredients and put them in a food processor, and pulsed until coarsely chopped. What a time saver! And, they are definitely the first appetizers to disappear. (My daughters and I often ate most of the filling to "taste" if it was "just right." :)) Dec 13, 2010: Update: I just made these for my boyfriend's office party yesterday, and they disappeared so fast, he and I only got one each. I doubled the recipe. BUT, I did have LEFTOVER FILLING...and, YUM...I spread a couple teaspoons on half a high fiber english muffin, topped it with some plain egg salad (just egg and light mayo), and had the yummiest breakfast sandwich! It would be good as a spread on turkey sandwiches, too. Or, hey, how about as a bagel topping? Mmmm...

I took a little advice from others and used vegetable flavored cream cheese instead of mayo. I used the 1/4 teaspoon measuring spoon to scoop out the seeds and then I put all the stuff in my food processor and mixed it well and then put it into a pastry bag and piped the filling into the tomatoes! Makes a very pretty filling and of course I CUT OFF A SMALL SLICE FROM THE BOTTOM OF EACH TOMATO BEFORE I FILLED SO THEY'D SIT UPRIGHT! Very pretty on a bed of fresh parsley...make lots though because they are the ones to disappear first! Next time, I'll make a bunch and keep the scooped out tomatoes in a air-tight container and a large pastry bag filled with the stuffing and that way I can easily re-stuff more as needed!!! Yum!!!

Great little appie. I made the filling the day before and refrigerated to let the flavours blend. To save time, I used one 2.8oz/85g package of fully cooked real bacon bits. The tomatoes are very easy and quick to prepare if you cut out the centre w/ a paring knife then use a grapefruit spoon to scoop out the seeds & pulp. Dry them cut side down really well on paper towels before filling. We've tried them using mayo and miracle whip and prefer the mayo. Thanks for the tip to slice a very thin piece off of the bottom of the tomatos so they sit flat on the serving plate. Yum, yum, will definitely make these again!

These are great! Big hit at my last party! I put the filling in a baggie and cut off a corner to pipe the filling in each tomato-much easier than using a spoon, faster, and less messy.

I made this for a holiday weekend with family and gave 2 copies of the recipe out. They are labor intensive, but delish! I used half the bacon, and used a 8 oz. block of softened cream cheese. I used more green onions and a few shakes of seasoned salt. We cut the large cherry tomatoes in half, made filling them easier with a small teaspoon. Very good!

Easy & simple. I agree, cut a small piece off the bottom of each one. To make even easier, place filling into a ziplock (aka piping) bag to make filling easier!

This is a great recipe! Tomatoes are very plentiful. I find mine at the farmer's market since we do not have a garden of our own. I did follow a former review and cut a bit off the bottom of each tomato so they would sit well. I used a small sharp knife to cut around the edges of each tomato once I removed the top and then scooped out the pulp with a 1/4 measuring spoon. This was no big deal at all! It went very fast. I then placed the tomatoes on a bed of lettuce, filled and topped with a small piece of bacon. Delicious!

I made these several years ago, but I filled them with purchased seafood salad. I put the salad in the food processor to make it smoother before filling the tomatoes. Saves time. Everyone loved them.

I have made this recipe many times. It is time consuming to make but well worth the effort. To facilitate removing the pulp, I go around the inner wall using a serrated grapefruit spoon. After scooping out the pulps, I turn the tomatoes over onto paper toweling to let them drain thoroughly. To fill the tomatoes, I use an infant feeding spoon.

I made these using cream cheese also....like it better than mayo. Has anyone cut the tomatoes in half instead of just cutting off the top? They'd be more bite-size then, and you'll also get twice the amount. I will try that next time.

I used the foil cupcake thingy's. put 4 in each one and that way people could just grab foil and go. kept them up right and I didn't need dishes for people to put them on. Use a LARGE holed(snipped at the coner edge) sammich bag(make sure filling is cold) to fill tomato. CROWD PLEASER!!!!

see below....I also used Miracle Whip and used a strawberry corer from Pampered Chef to dig out the center of the tomatoes. Slice off a small piece of the bottom, so they will stand up.
Made about 60 of these for the 4th of July and they were gone before I even set them out. Great recipe!! I used the peppered bacon.

These were great! I haven't had very much experience in the kitchen, but these were easy and yummy! They were eating up so fast and everyone thought they were adorable! The hardest part is getting the inside of the tomato out, i'd suggest using a knife and spoon. I'd definitely make them again!

Great recipe! There is nothing like bacon and tomato together. I use turkey bacon and reduced fat mayo. Also, if you crumble your bacon small enough or use bacon bits, you can put the filling in a sandwich bag, cut off a corner, and pipe filling into the tomatoes. Or make the hole larger to accommodate bigger pieces of bacon. This is much faster. Might try the shredded cheese in it next time.

These aren't as quick as I thought they'd be, but they are well worth it! I've made them several times playing with different ways to lighten them up, but there is no substitute for real bacon! I like to use peper bacon and that version got the most compliments and requests, but I do use lower fat mayo and cut it in half and sub the other half with fat-free plain yogurt, I also use a shredded 4-cheese italian blend. It gives it a bolder flavor.

This is so fun and easy to make, and it tastes amazing. I dont use mayo so i used the miricle whip but next time im thinking of a cesar dressing or creamcheese, maybe making the creamcheese sweet with brown sugar and cinamon and subsituting the bacon to make them more deserty. the bacon it called for inthe recipie was a bit much for me i may think of subsituting some of that for cut up tomatoes or something else as i love tomatoes so much :) this recipie is def def worth a try
