these are AWESOME!! mine turned out like the pic too and i agree with SDawsonH they need a scoop of icecream. MMMMM they are delicious!!! what a hit!! and i baked them a full 25 min. u dont want to over bake them but definitely not UNDER BAKE either!!!!

This was extremely easy to make...the time listed is correct; no more than 20 minutes to assemble, so it is great for a quick treat. This turned out great for me and a nice desert for a dinner party if plated (might I suggest a scoop of vanilla ice cream?!?). Or, think about this as an option for a brunch? This would be a hit!

They do make a seamless crescent roll dough now, this may help with some of the "leaking" problems.

Reviewed on Jan. 16, 2010 by angelasandoval

Didn't have any of the problems others complained about. They came out just like the photo...wonderfully light and crispy on top, nicely apple pie flavored. I did think they were sweet enough that they might make a better dessert than breakfast, which is what I served them for. Oh, and I added 1/2 c. pecans to apple filling.

I made these for Christmas morning. They were ok, but not a favorite. Too much syrup and they fell apart when you tried to take them off the pan. Maybe I had a bum batch of crescent rolls, but the rolls did not puff up like in the picture; they stayed quite flat. I don't think I'll be making these again.

The grandkids loved them - of course they're full of sugar. Next time, I'll try my own sweet bread recipe as the dinner roll dough wasn't thick enough, at least mine didn't turn out like the picture used with the recipe. Great filling, though!

The after picture is a little better than the before one - so thought I'd send it along too ;-)

I made these during morning Thanksgiving time and it was wonderful! We ate them warm and they were just great! The think I had trouble with was keeping them in a nice roll/ Mine didn't look quite so pretty - they were just kind of shaped (?) onto the pan - still tasted good, I just didn't try putting them on my stand I had intended to use ;-)- may hae let my apples sit too long? They were quite juicy when I poured them over the dough?

My family enjoyed this treat. I cut up the apples and mixed the sugar and pie spices first. This let the sugar and spices dissolve into a thin syrup with the apples. As I prepared the crescent rolls, which were another matter, I may use an egg wash to help seal the seams. All in all, They were a hit at our house!! M.L. Richardson

I would not make this again. Do not let the dough come to room temperature...it sticks to everything and hard to roll up. The sugar syrup crystalizes too quickly into a HARD candy in the oven- made it difficult to take out of pan. Pillsbury dough just doesn't taste as good as a sweet bread dough recipe.

Excellent recipe, and easy. I substituted Splenda for most of the sugar, altho I drizzled some confectioners sugar mixed with water over the tops after baking. Everyone loved these - especially when warm! - Kathy

I really didn't do a good job with this recipe - the crescents didn't puff out, I might have used the wrong pan ... I didn't even let my boyfriend eat it. But I think it's a good recipe in theory. :)

I made the Apple Pinwheels. One problem with the cressent rolls though, they kept coming apart. Eventually I got them to stay together. However, the pinwheels were delicious. Joyce

I liked these, but it was important to sprinkle the sugar on the apples, then roll them ASAP. If one doesn't they become watery and difficult to roll and cut. I also would use less syrup over the top. I will make these again, however I may try it with regular bread dough (like a cinn. roll) or with less syrup. Finely chopped walnuts were a good addition.

The Apple Pinwheels was very good. I enjoyed it best warmed. However, I think I would halved the sugar, butter, and water mixture that was poured over top. After sitting for a day, it was way too sweet. I will definately make this again.

I made these last night and will definitely make them again. They disappeared in no time and everyone was looking for more. I didn't roll them correctly but no one cared because they were so good. I'm going to try it next time with my own dough.

a. They didn't last long with my son & his kids. b. I, also, added a 1/2 c. chopped pecans walnuts would do,too). Really Yummy. Not a usual Australian dish. As we don't have the 'Crescent Rolls' in our grocery fridge---I made the yeast bread, with butter, by hand.

It was delicious but next time I think I will roll the dough into a ball and then roll it out into a rectangle. I too had a hard time rolling it because the filling came out the seams. I am going to try it with just one pack of crescent rolls for just the two of us. I served it to guests and it was a hit.

Reviewed on Nov. 24, 2008 by cathyray

These tasted very good--but only one roll hardly makes a serving.

I found them easy until I had to try and pinch and roll the crescent roll dough. The sugary apple filling popped the seams and leaked through. I'll probably make them again.

Reviewed on Nov. 24, 2008 by amywood20

I thought it was good except it had too much of a buttery taste. I think less syrup would make it just right.

I would use Splenda with the apples and then for the glaze, maybe reduce down some unsweetended apple juice (adding Splenda to taste if necessary).  I would also use the reduced fat crescent rolls.  This recipes sounds really yummy!!!

I didn't know what "Apple Pie Spice" was as I've never heard of being able to buy that ready mixed before (I'm in Canada) so I looked it up online.

Here are the ingredients to make "Apple Pie Spice" and it makes about ¼ cup:

¼ cup cinnamon

2 tsp ground nutmeg

1 tsp allspice

1 tsp ground ginger

Once mixed, store tightly in a spice container.

hi all!!!!does this sound just out of this world or what??!!as for splenda, yes use it!!!as for the liquid you poor over simply use the splenda there also, well on second thought maybe not,you are going for a glaze effect...plus it also soaks in the rolls..tell you what,i am going to call slenda's 800#tomorrow and ask about it.even if we use it,the glaze will not be there..oh my,this is a situation is it not???and i have no doubt would freeze well...got to think more on this,i will post tommorrow sometime on it.anyone out there smarter than us?????

I too would like to know if this can be frozen and if I could use splenda blend for baking in place of the straight sugar.

tednan, I'm diabetic and if I made this recipe for Apple Pinwheels, I would just leave off the glaze which has 1 cup of sugar in it and substitute Splenda for the 1/3 cup in the recipe. The apples are sweet enough that it shouldn't hurt the recipe. For most regular recipes, I'll halve the sugar and do half Splenda. They usually turn out fine.

Splenda can be used in any recipe that calls for sugar.  It should work out ok.

Reviewed on Nov. 20, 2008 by csschmidt

Could Splenda be used in this? My mom is a diabetic and that might take it down to something she can eat.

I'm going to try this using Splenda instead of the sugar. I think it'll be a great breakfast for Christmas morning when the kids are running around - easy to assemble, easy to eat. I think I'll also add some chopped hazelnuts or pecans to it.

It's the water, butter and sugar that you heated and set aside in the first step.
