Apple Nachos Recipe

Ingredients

  • 36 caramels
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 30 large marshmallows
  • 1/3 cup butter, cubed
  • 4 medium tart apples, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 1/3 cup chopped dry roasted peanuts
  • 1/3 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons Halloween sprinkles

Directions

  • In a microwave, melt caramels with water; stir until smooth.
  • Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, melt marshmallows and butter. Arrange apple slices on a large platter. Drizzle with caramel; top with marshmallow mixture. Sprinkle with peanuts, chocolate chips and sprinkles. Serve immediately. Yield: 24 servings.

Nutritional Facts 1 serving equals 149 calories, 6 g fat (3 g saturated fat), 8 mg cholesterol, 76 mg sodium, 25 g carbohydrate, 1 g fiber, 2 g protein. Diabetic Exchanges: 1-1/2 starch, 1 fat.

Creepy Cauldron

To create a spooky scene at your Halloween party, purchase dry ice from your local grocery store's seafood department or ice supplier. Using tongs or thick gloves, place the dry ice in a watertight container; cover with water. Warm water will create more smoke, but it will disappear quickly. Cooler water will produce less dense smoke, but it will last longer. If the amount of smoke decreases during your party, add more dry ice and water.

Editor's Note: Do not handle dry ice with your bare hands. Use tongs or thick gloves. Keep dry ice out of the reach of children.

I am planning on making these for my granddaughter's birthday party. Nice to see the idea of fluff and ice cream topping. I will add peanut butter chips also. It all sounds so yummy!

I will make this again with caramel ice cream topping, and hope it turns out easier to eat then with the melted caramels. My family really liked it I will also try it with cinnamon chips this time. All in all I thought it was fun and tasty just needed to work out a couple of kinks.

How is a recipe that calls for 36 caramels, 30 large marshmallows, chocolate chips and sprinkles considered 'diabetic friendly'? This dish has 25g of highly processed carbs and only 2g of protein to offset the digestion of all this sugar. This dish is NOT diabetic friendly.

This was an ooey, gooey, delicious mess! But so is a caramel apple, and this was much easier to prepare. We loved it!

I can only give this 2 stars as written, and I would not make it again as written. I wish I had read the other reviews before making this! The recipe does not say how long to heat the caramels in the microwave, and I overcooked them. The caramel got hard immediately after drizzling and the whole topping came off when we tried to pick up one apple! I will be making this again, but with ice cream toppings instead. The blurb with the recipe says that "it doesn't get much easier than" this, but using ice cream topping is WAY easier and works out better!

I just left the marshmallows in chunks and used ice cream topping caramel syrup. My kids couldn't stop eating it!

I took this to a football game gathering. Everyone loved them. I made 2 batches because they went so fast. Because I am not a peanut fan, I used chopped pecans instead. I also made my own homemade caramel instead of using caramel pieces.

My husband and I ate ourselves sick on this! I had a problem of my marshmallows hardening to where they made the apples stick together, but it was still good! Just be prepared to be sticky up to your eyebrows :)

I think next time I'll use caramel ice cream topping instead of the caramels and water, melted marshmallow fluff instead of the marshmallows, and 6-8 apples instead of just 4. There was WAY too much topping for 4 apples. I used Gala apples, which was nice too.

I made this with a Braeburn and Grannie Smith apple. The Braeburn was definitely the better choice. Easy to make, but gooey to eat.

When it says "serve immediately," it means it! I made these for a party, and everybody loved them, but since I had to make them a couple hours in advance, the apples were mushy (I tossed them with citrus to prevent browning) and the caramel/marshmallow sauces melted. But the flavor was so good that several ladies asked for the recipe!

Nice concept. However, the individual caramels set up too fast causing the apple slices to stick together creating a messy appetizer. Better to use prepare ice cream caramel topping or apple dip caramel.
