Apple Fritters

Grandma's Great Desserts Cookbook

Our children ask for fritters each fall when there are plenty of apples available.

METHOD: Deep-Frying

TIME: Prep: 15 min. Cook: 30 min.

Ingredients:

  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups chopped pared apples
  • Oil for deep-fat frying
  • Sugar

Directions:

In a mixing bowl, combine first five ingredients. Lightly beat eggs with water; add to dry ingredients and stir just until moistened. Fold in apples. In a skillet, heat oil to 375°. Drop batter by teaspoonfuls into oil and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Roll in sugar. Serve warm. Yield: 40 fritters.
