TIME: Prep: 10 min. Bake: 35 min. + cooling

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon aniseed

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, beat the sugar, honey and oil. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; add to sugar mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition. Stir in aniseed.
    Pour into a greased 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. Yield: 1 loaf. *Editor's Note: To sour milk, place 1 tablespoon white vinegar in a measuring cup. Add milk to measure 1 cup.
